Maybe if I would have...u would not treat me this way! " Love U, But Don't Trust U Anymore" (Live, Chicago 2002) (5:57)
think one of my favorite reasons for loving Prince is his supreme talent of his falsetto voice.. and this song performed live especially is amazing!!!!! The crowd is enraptured with his every delicious note accompanied with piano and angelic strings.... Dear God!.. is it ever a gorgeous ballad! wish was there in the audience to experience that. I always enjoyed the original version..but to hear it live and with different parts changed up... its even better than the original cd version IMO. Hearing the crowd clap and cheer adds to the song too. u can hear the jubilation and feel so much a part of the concert. It's the most amazing heartfelt song... it makes me cry. At section 3:40 in the song.... "...maybe if i would ha~ve, u would not treat me this way....." Such a powerful way he can control his voice and convery such emotion. get chills down my back. ooooo~! Everyone has to hear this magic! Anyone else feelin this live concert masterpiece? LYRICS I love you, but I don't trust U anymore _____ I could tell from the moment U walked in the room That it wasn't your dress U had on That wasn't your perfume And what happened 2 the ring that I gave U? What am I 2 assume? I love U, but I just don't trust U anymore U could tell from the moment U looked in my eyes That I could see right through Ü U must apologise I've always given U the best in life Even in the wrong, it was right I know U trust me, but U don't love me anymore No I remember meeting U here in the good ol' days I would never pick the flower of my favourite protegé Maybe if I would have Then U would not treat me this way U tricked me - but U will not anymore No, no I love u, I love u , love u ...but I don't trust U anymore + "How come u don't call me anymore" teaser at the end. "All of me give 2 thee down at your feet ...
The reassurance in your rhythm speaks 2 me." -------------------------------------------------------- "I wanna hold U, wrap U up in lace. And I wanna kiss U, kiss U all over your face."

BUt as I was telling somebody the lyrics are Confusing cause he is talking about a girl wearing another girl's dress. Doesn't that mean this girl was having an affair with a girl? He is talking about WHOM? When was this song written? Is itAUTOBIOGRAPHICAL or FICTION ? For a Movie or just a WANTON LESBIAN WISH. This Man just Cannotget enough with Lesbians or Thoughts . He Really either Digs the 2 chick thing or is JEALOUS of the Women being Intimate shit. Or is SECRETELY INTO WANTING TO B a LESBIAN LOVER To His Chick. Damn ,he wanna see That? Ain't so Hard a Thing....I'll Grant him his Wish..Damn....Laughing...OH Man....Just pick a Subject....

The other dress would be the one Prince suspects the guy she's having an affair with must've bought her.
This song's amazing. What's that I hear in Prince's vocals? Good god, why it's actual heart and genuine feeling! On the Rave album?! Unreal. Heartbreaking song, and easily one of his best from the 90's. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Heartbreaking song, and easily one of his best from the 90's. Achingly beautiful song. The use of space is so Joni Mitchellesque. He goes from pain, resignation and nostalgic feelings in a few bars but he can never go back to those original feelings. I also had the belief that the woman was having an affair with another woman. This made the song unique and also touches on the intimacy issues dealt with in "If I Was Your Girlfriend." Wasn't there a rumor out there that Mayte cheated on Prince with another woman?

And while having an affair she would have taken her ring off. Fantastic song. I also got chills when I hear this live in concert. Very cool indeed. "

i don't like the feel of this song...because it feel dry? like it's too technical, for an emotionally focused song. nice song however incomplete, if you know what i mean. one of the prince songs that i hide rather than show off. maybe live, it's different. or maybe it's supposed to make me think this way about it?

I just don't get that point of view. I understand people not liking certain songs, but this comment doesn't even seem to fit ILUBIDTUA at all. Didn't you hear the pain in his voice when he sings that line "Maybe If I would have, then you would not treat me this way" near the end? You can just hear him trying to keep himself together, but it's obvious it's a very personal song to him. The song's not meant to be "emotional" like, say, Something In The Water. It's meant to be sparse, mournful and melancholy. [Edited 1/21/06 1:46am] The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

So many times his songs just Cave You In....It's Scary having that kind of Intensity Cause I don't Always Feel that TAKEN In SPIRIT....It's just DEEP Truly Deep....He can Move me Like No Other and That's why I get Scared cause I lose it around him....He pulls the Heart Strings as the Master Puppeteer....

yes, not the songs by themselves, he's a master interpreter of songs. and in this song he uses his perfect technique although seems like he has not captured this song in his heart.

I don't think it's possible for me to disagree with a human being more.
His voice is dripping of pain and regret. Too technical? No, that would be in songs like Until U're In My Arms Again. Here, you can feel the subdued heartbreak in his voice with every line. The fact that it's more subdued than outwardly expressive gives the song resonance and a delicate, tragic layer of simple beauty. And the sparse style of the music makes it unbelievably lonely and ominous sounding. In short, you're wrong. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.
