Have you ever found yourself saying that about a song you initially felt was just ok or maybe you even hated? That happens with me all the time, particularly with Prince's music for some reason. Two songs that come to mind are "2 Nigs United 4 West Compton" and "Reflection". I once thought they were just pretty good and now they're two of my favorites.

What songs had to grow on you?

As far as Prince is concerned: MANY songs first have to grow on me. Especially when he changes his whole stye.
For example the Emancipation stuff had to grow on me.
When I first listened to it I thought all the songs sound the same. Furthermore I missed a lot of the dark funk/hip hop influenced sound from gold experience, dark and 0(+> but now after some time it's clearly one of my favourites. And the funk is there you just have to listen to it.
Another example is "on the couch". First I thought it was horrible. Everytime I listened to the album I skipped it. Some weeks ago I gave it another try and now it's one of my favourite songs.
But actually that happens with much of Prince's slow jams where he sounds like he starts to cry any moment. "Adore" is another one of that.

I think that's the great thing about being a Prince fan: Everytime you put in an old record you find something new surprising you or you find out that songs u didn't like in the first place are actually good...this might also be the reason why Prince isn't successful anymore, people don't listen.

Almost all of his music. One of the coolest things about being a PRince fan is that the music only gets better over time.

I hear you FreakInMe. That actually happened with "On the Couch" for me as well. At first it sounded like alot of angst and antisipation that didn't go anywhere. I was waiting for that moment where satisfaction was granted ala "International Lover" or "Come" where he screams and the music reaches its proverbial climax. Then, after several listens, I realized that that was the charm of it. You really hear the passion and yearning just as much with the music as you do with the words.

Lotsa his songs have to "grow" on me. The latest being Condition of the Heart.

I took a while for Positivity to grow on me.

And The Rainbow Children. I hated it when I first heard it and put it away for like 2 years. When I listened to it again I loved it (and still do!).

I feel that way about Cinnamon Girl. And beliewe it or not, I didn't really dig Little Red Corvette until after the Musicology concert. Maybe it was the singing along and watching his fine ass sit down with that acoustic guitar.

Prince has such a rich and varied back catalogue that it is almost impossible not to fall in love with songs that u have glossed over in the past. prety much any of his 80's material has the potential to enrapture u. depent on time, event and mood. yep, he really was that good!

I used to hate power fantastic. Back then I craved only the funk. Now it makes me weep I love it so much

I feel like I'll go straight to hell for saying this but when SOTT came out I didnt like The Ballad of Dorothy Parker.

I think it was the lack of a typical song structure.

It later became one of my favourites.
