Would it really kill them to announce the proposed album release date a mere 10 weeks early? What is the purpose of keeping silent? The whole point of promoting an album is to let people know about it, not cover it in secrecy!

No, I really think it is simply the case that Prince lives in Prince world and believes he can control the flow of info, not wanting to admit that the information has already slipped past him into the public domain.

Won't this release date be in direct competition with the new hits package that is scheduled for a March release? Sounds like a conflict and more WB sniping.

i know prince lives in prince world but wouldn't he just make universal sign an agreement that his website gets the exclusives on release dates etc so they can't spill the beans, and if they do such and such happens? i really can't see him not thinking of something like that if he's so anal about exclusives.

personally i just think prince is only interested in the music club occassionally and when it suits him or when he thinks of it, like when he did Glasscutter or SST etc. i doubt every week he sits down and chooses songs to put in the club or reflection room. maybe when he wants a theme he says 'pick some rosie gaines songs' but i'd be quite surprised that week in week out he has much involvement with the club directly.

maybe he does though, maybe he doesn't. i don't know. but with regards to this particular album it does seem that the npgmc haven't got any exclusives, and its all gone to VH1 or universal or whoever, which would make me think that its some particular of a contract or something.

that said, you'd think universal would make a bigger deal of it.

the mods of npgmc have stated that release info will come from Universal....so it would appear that they did give Universal the exclusivity of initial release info.
