Funeral songs

I know it's a rather pessimistic subject, but which songs would you like to be played in your funeral?

My list is the following:

Purple Rain (Prince of course)
Paradise (Bruce Springsteen)
There is lonely (Prince once more)
Hallelujah (Jeff Buckley version)
(Little Richard enters the stage)
Homer: Purple Rain!!
Little Richard: Shut up!
Homer (to Marge): Oh my God, Michael Jackson just told me to shut up!

Hallelujah is a beautiful song but what about the slightly risque lyrics.

The last wedding I was at they played just the chords of Purple Rain at the lighting of candles which made my day.

I had always thought of Don't Talk 2 Strangers as a nice funeral track but it might be a bit sad.

Or what about it Bowies version of it aint easy?

Call It Sleep - Steve Vai
Cryin' - Joe Satriani
All Along The Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix
Waiting For The Worms - Pink Floyd (Sick I know but I have a warped sense of Humour and those closest would appreciate the sickness)
finished off with Alexa De Paris and venus De Milo

Paradise is a touching emotional song but being as it is written from the perspective of a suicide bomber I don't really think it's an appropriate funeral song unless you are a homicide bomber. I really wish the song wouldn't have been included on The Rising Album. It would have been a better fit on Devils and Dust.

If you take away the first verse from the song, I think it's quite suitable. But I understand your point. I just chose these songs more for their feel than their lyrics.

Haven't given it too much thought other than I want to be an organ donor and then cremated...but how about Eye Wish U Heaven?
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Maybe I'll add 'Wild Theme' by Mark Knopfler to my list as well. Allthough I don't want to keep the people occupied for too long.

Thats a great choice.
I had always thought of Joni Mitchell to play me out. Both Sides Now or The Circle Game.

If i had to choose a Prince one it would probably be Welcome 2 The Dawn.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Prince says my name in one of his songs. In Little Red Corvette, he says, "Liz is on the verge of being obscene" Ha, ha, just kidding. But seriously.

Me too ... but on reflection, there is a religious theme to the song, which wouldn't be appropriate at my funeral (see some of my posts in 'Politics and Religion' to see why smile ).

Suppose I better update my family and friends smile

Hmph, never thought about it. I don't think I've ever been to a funeral where they PLAYED MUSIC? Do they? Guess I never paid much attention.

I'd pick Purple Rain, and Paisley Park.....Oh Hell.....SOFT & WET too, for fun!
