Do not act like if you did not understand. You are a moderator on a site dedicated to Prince and you know like I know how W&L fams play it on the org.

Aerogram has perfectly sumed up you guys attitude :

" Yes, Wendy and Lisa wrote most of ATWIAD and Parade, inspired Madonna to release Like A Prayer and Paul Simon Graceland, along with shepherding the Lesbian liberation movement and a renewed interest in the music of Wolfang Amadeus Mozart. "

Now when you are told their music is boring you are upset and all. It is just time to hear on or two other opinions about their music than the ones coming from your small community of 1000 remaining W&L fans.

why are you making this personal? have i expressed anything to lead you to think im upset? and whats up with the "its just time to hear" comment? are you that annoyed by others who are expressing an opposing view to yours that you have to generate a campaign to neutralize the discussion? come on now!!!

and when did aerogram make that statement? cause i have never seen him ever resort to such a low comment like the above one your contributing to him...please post a link.

Aerogram was stating with his great sens of humor how W&L FAMS tend to exagerate W&L's involvment and influence in prince's career and in the music biz. Check his other participations to this thread... thumbs up!

This is what he had to say abou the topic as well. I agree with him 100% ! wink

" I have no problem with accepting Wendy and Lisa's influence on Prince's music. I'm just a tad fed up with the one way street of W&L indluencing Prince so much, while it was him that gave them the chance to develop further within his music. I really don't see them writing Mountains without having been with Prince for a while. And when they went solo they did not take their success with them for too long. Whatver you think of their music, it had its main impact within Prince's. If they did write these songs or made those striking contributions, it was because he was there to incorporate it, within his overall vision. W&L did not make Prince. He made them and together they did beautiful music. "

im not going to deny aerogram the right to express how he feels..but what you need to do is re-read aerograms comments and take note that he is not dismissing anything wendy and lisa have done..he is not making fun of their fanbase and he is not making fun of those people who are fans of their music..

its called "class"....and thats why i enjoy engaging aerogram in discussion...even when we disagree on the subject at hand..

do me a favor, read aerograms comments..and then re-read your own...and share with us the difference in tone and atttidue..

You must have skimmed over the part of my post where I said "once aimed". Come on... they did try! It's just too convenient to say they made videos and stuff but were "not interested" in big time pop success.

And when was this aim? If you're referring to the albums they released, it was an outlet, somewhat an only outlet at the time, for their musical creativity.

Videos were required by the record company, not something they "aimed" for. I don't see where your getting this 'failed attempt' at stardom from. They played the game for a minute to stay in the realm of the music biz, but once they found out they could do more behind the scenes, they took that route.

And have been extremely successful in doing so.
Tell me, do you bleed? You will!

Prince, Wendy, and Lisa were a strong collective together and it can be argued that along with the other members of the Revolution that Prince's sound changed (better or worse is all a matter of opinion and prespective).

I am a Prince fan; however, it cannot be denied that Wendy and Lisa were extremely instrumental in his sound during the early-to-mid 80s. Together they made great music and as for the actual contributions to the songs, you can only go on the material, interviews, recording session information/logs that's out there. If the question becomes: Is he really the genius we thought he was/is? Then I say the answer is "yes." But being a musical genius does not mean you're not influenced by others. Being a musical genius means really quite the opposite. You can take input (ideas, contributions, etc.) and improve upon the input or at least tailor the input to the audience you are trying to reach.

AWTWIAD is Prince with input from group members - especially Lisa and Wendy. From my studies, Lisa and Wendy contributed heavily, but he was going that direction any way (band leader vice a sole 1-man studio band). It was an important move because we got some great material. Lisa and Wendy are probably not getting all of the credit or input that actually contributed; however, there is credit and Lisa and Wendy seem content knowing that they were part of something special. But for those of you that really want to think of Prince as that 1-man band or at least the diretor that visualized and instructued everything, you still have those gems as well (yes, even on Parade and AWTWIAD). Remember that Prince did lay a lot of the tracks himself and sometimes in one take. I personally think the road goes both ways: Some credit may have been withheld, yet some credit was also given when maybe it wasn't quite what we consider considerable input.

The best ones to listen to our the band members, engineers, etc. that were part of that era. Dr. Fink seems to think that the credit was properly given. Lisa and Wendy seem content, but one can tell in their interviews that they may feel a little short on the credits, while the others may have contributed, but no where near the extent that Lisa and Wendy did. A bassline or synth groove are contributions, but not necessarily co-writer credit type inputs. What is interesting to note is that the whole late-70s/early 80s music era of Prince was packed full of talent that was consistent with Prince's vision of Minnapolis funk. It is not only evidenced in his music as a solo artist, but also in the protege groups that were coming out under the Prince banner to include: Vanity/Appolonia 6 albums and The Time material. Both Lisa and Wendy were a part of that movement --- especially Lisa with The Time. But don't worry Prince fans -- it was still his vision and like any other group - you have to have a leader. Prince was the leader with some very talented soliders.

Revisionist history !!! This expression normally applies to issues like "Have concentration camps ever existed ?". Not to "W&L's music is boring" !

Regarding another thread, It could be :
"Why lendy and Wisa never managed to come up with anything near Purple rain or Parade after they left prince ?". That would be interesting.

No, I mean 'us' as in the people that seem to be able to carry on a conversation without getting all bent out of emotional shape and upset like you are. You have to make comments about my country (that you obviously don't know) because youv are pissed off with me ! Woaw it says a lot about your weaknesses.

Sorry, I wasn't commenting on your country, bub. I was commenting on your demeanor on this thread and your attitude and disrespect of others. It's anything but beautiful...arrogant, ignorant and pretentious perhaps, full of personal opinions foolishly presented as fact, but it ain't 'beautiful.'

...and you haven't pissed me off. You have no control or effect on my emotions. You're just another faceless text stream full of hot air.

No, I don't share your OPINION. It really sends you over the deep end knowing that people don't agree with you and you can't change their minds, doesn't it?

Madonna, Olivia Newton-John, Robbie Williams.

Gee, this is the first time in recent memory that having an eclectic musical taste has ever been looked at as a bad thing... I notice you skip over the people at the top of my list and go right to the very bottom:

I, also, love : Ani DiFranco, Annie Lennox, Chris Isaak, George Michael, Joni Mitchell, Loreena McKennitt, etc... I don't pretend to be a musical snob such as yourself and I don't need you to validate my tastes in music. If you wish to be narrow, then be so and enjoy!

Morris Day and The Time are performing the same tired old shtick and routines they've had for 20 years. Morris Day is the poster child of boring albums and not being able to get out from under the legend that is Purple Rain. Talk about someone who should have been able to make a real career for himself...

Oh, and the next time you aren't feeling so narrow listen to Gaia by Olivia Newton-John. It's sure to improve your mood and the last track on the album will teach you about getting along with people. lol
