Love Song...Prince & Madonna

Totally under-rated song. I actually forgot about this song but it came on my iPod the other day and I was re-introduced to this forgotten gem. It kinda reminds me of It...another underrated tune. I can't stop playing it now. Any other love for Love Song??

Love this song !!

Always wondered what other people thought about it.

It's one of those that stays in your head and pops up quite a bit for no reason.
Shut up already, damn.

I think a lot of people dislike it because it is somewhat of a let down. You hear Prince and Madonna are doing a duet together, you expect something mind blowing, but in a way, I like how understated it is. I like the tension of the record, and the funny little contributions each obviously made independently of the other.

Great little tune that I actually just discovered last year. I think I went a week it was all I played in my car.

Are you wasting my time? Are you just being kind?

I heard they didn't do this in a studio together though. But one comment I agree with is, you would think that Prince and Madonna would want to do something monumental if they were going to work together.

A "U Got the Look" type of exciting sexual tension love jam.

I mean come one... Sheena Easton caused more excitement with that song that Prince and Madonna ever did!

I'm not a huge Madonna fan, but that's just not right. I'm surprised Madonna... the perfectionist that she is... didn't demand a chart topper that would put the world on it's ear.
The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

Except the thing is...egos collide. They couldn't have a chart topper because who would get credit? Those egos would have exploded. I think it's a much more meaningful thing that it ended up as an afterthough on a Madonna album. Also, notice how it wasn't on a P album...

with this song,I don't think that Prince or Madonna were thinking "hit duet".This song is too dark and subtle to be a chart-topping hit.Yes,a song like "U Got The Look" is obviously designed for commercial appeal, but "Love Song" is different. It's a quiet, quirky little track that was probably not meant to become a single.

This song could have been a really big hit for both artists at the time. I don't know why Maddie didn't release it on the album. sad

since the song appears on her album, the single would have been billed as: Madonna featuring Prince.I don't know if that would have been okay with him, lol.

I LOVE this song!!! I, obviously, love Prince and I LOVE Madonna and together it was just fantastic!!! The dark feel of the song is what makes it so great. Who cares if it was a big hit or not!!
Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

Anyone noticed that Madonna recycles the lyrics 'time goes by so slowly for those who wait, but those who run seem to have all the fun' on her latest single 'Hung Up'?

Love the song.

Maybe a song 4 a mixtape of superstar duets in the 80ies.

MJ vs Mick Jagger 'State of shock'
Bowie vs Jagger 'Dancing in the streets'
Bowie vs Tina 'Tonight'

etc

a pretty song. i like it alot. no fanfare, very simple and suprisingly very 'genuine' in its sentiment.

But she DID release it on the album, Like A Prayer, 1989.

I'm glad they avoided the obvious "big chart topping mega hit," I think they called it "Love Song" on purpose so that people would think, "Oh Prince and Madonna doing a love ballad," only to listen to it and find out that it wasn't a love song at all.

A lot of Madonna fans don't like the song. A lot of Prince fans don't like the song, either. It doesn't set out to please anyone.

And that's partly why I love it.

I think it has more of an '86/87 sound...it has that demo-sign o the times feel. Much like "It"...yep I said it again. I am not a big Madonna fan...but damn she sounds good on this one...and of course P sounds awesome as ever.

Just noticed that in Love Song it says: Time goes by so slowly for those who wait

And if we take a look at Madge's latest single we see:

Time goes by so slowly...
I'm tired of waiting for you.

Coincidence? It looks like a Dan Brown mystery lol
(Little Richard enters the stage)
Homer: Purple Rain!!
Little Richard: Shut up!
Homer (to Marge): Oh my God, Michael Jackson just told me to shut up!

here's an excerpt from a 1989 interview with Songtalk magazine,in which Madonna discusses the making of her 'Like A Prayer' album...

Songtalk: You and Prince wrote "Love Song" together, which is a wonderful song.Did you and him work together, did he give you a track?

Madonna: No,he didn't give me a track. We sat down and just started fooling around. We had alot of fun. What happened is that he played the drums and I played the synthesizer and we came up with the original melody line;I just, off the top off my head, started singing lyrics into the microphone. And then he overdubbed some guitar stuff and made a loop of it and sent it to me,and then I just started adding sections to it and singing parts to it.And then I sent it back to him,and he'd sing a part to it and add another instrument and send it back to me...it was like this sentence that turned into a paragraph that turned into a little miniseries. So it was great. It was a completely different way to work. And because of our schedules and everything, and he was in Minnesota and he likes to work there and I like to work here.So we kind of sent it back and forth. He's great. He's a real interesting...unique talent.

Songtalk: And was it an easy connection from the beginning for the two of you?

Madonna: Yeah,it was.We started out being real admirers of each other's work. And you know,we're already successful so we didn't have to prove anything to each other. We were on the same level. And I don't think he's had that same opportunity with other people that he's worked with.Because generally he tends to dominate everything.

Songtalk: You,Prince and Michael Jackson were all born in the same year,1958

Madonna: I know.Isn't that weird? And I think Michael's birthday is right near mine,in August....there are so many Leos in my life.I'm August 16.
