Feel U Up: The Bootleg vs. The B-side

I'm surprised that Prince re-recorded this song so long after he had made the demo for it.

I was looking at singles from 1988-1989 and some have "Long Stroke" and another mixed "Short Stroke". What are the differences?

Was anyone disappointed when they bought the b-side, expecting a recording closer to the demo version?

Long stroke was a longer version. Short stroke would be like a Radio Mix.
Great tune though! Catchy... typical Prince. I can imagine him walking up to a woman and saying every word of that song... and meaning it.
The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

omg

i made a whole list with silly comments on how good the early bootlegged
version of this song is.

bananacologne had the list in his profile for a while lol

i can't begin to describe (again) how much i love that version. i also do
like the released version (long stroke), but the early one has an insane
funkyfied quality to it.

thumbs up!

03:44 = feel u up (short stroke)

06:30 = feel u up (long stroke)

exact same song, it just goes on for longer. think along the lines of
'shockadelica' & 'she's always in my hair' 12" single versions comp
to the hits/bsides releases of those songs.

This was something Prince was prone to do a lot, there are countless examples of Prince dipping back into his catalogue of unreleased material and sprucing something up or re-recording it.

Raspberry Beret, Strange Relationship, Tick Tick Bang, Question Of U, Moonbeam Levels, New Position, Mia Bocca, Feel U Up, Can't Stop, We Can Funk/Fuck..... the list goes on.

The Long Stroke version was on the b-side to the Partyman 12" single, so it is like a 12" b-side.

I think the short stroke was on the plain single version of Partyman.

Yeah I definitely checking out that Partyman 12" at the store.

They also had Prince's "I Wish U Heaven parts 1,2,& 3" b/w "Scarlet Pussy" by Camille. smile

You'll have to buy the import 12" or the 3" cd and not the US 12" because that one still has the short stroke version on it. I will never figure how they screwed that one up. disbelief

Me too. I think it's definately worth it sto seek out the 'Long stroke' Version.

Nobody ever mentions this, but i always thought the released version of Feel u up was sorta a jab @ Jesse Johnson. Like the vocal style and the lyric is a sorta play/ parody on Jesse Johnson's style.

I'm not looking for a one night stand
I only want to feel U up
I don't really want to be your man
I only want to feel u up

that's waht I'm all about

feel u up, turn you out

The bootleg version is alright but the vocals are mixed way too low. I do like how it segues into the demo of Irresistable Bitch tho.
Keep your headphones on.

No, I really like the released version. The "Long Stroke" version is, also, the one from the Camille album.

I got to agree with you on this one. I like alot of his boots. I think the ones that are released are just a little cleaner (studio mixed).
