Well, it's not my favourite one, so maybe I shouldn't post, but I think that it IS very good and completely underrated by many people around here. thumbs up!

Batman is in my top five favorite albums, but not #1 on my list. Although is it a great album. Scandalous is one of my favorite Prince songs, it's in my top five. Fantastic album.
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

i think it's a matter of one's age to say if this is a favorite or not
for most of us '80s fans, it was the first letdown we ever experienced
it's the first time Prince wrote and produced a full album of relatively simple songs
(and yes, i know i don't speak for everyone)

It's decent, but #1? Oh hell no. Not in a million fuckin' years.

It's one of my favorites, #13 (before Diamonds & Pearls and after Prince), but not my all-time favorite. But, once I start listening to "The Future," I end up listening to the rest of it all the way through. "Scandalous" is a classic gem I remember from my youth.

Damn, that was a nice suit he had in the video...

There's a lot to like on this album... Scandalous, Lemon Crush, Trust... lots of good material... but Vicki Waiting always stood out.

The verse "Talk of children still frightens me. Is my character enough to be... one that deserves a copy made. This I one day... I hope to see." always held a special feeling.

I'm not a father, but that line always made me wonder whether I deserve to be one... in some wierd way.

And also... I'm sorry... but Sheena Easton outsings Prince on The Arms of Orion. Her voice is lovely, and he just sounds like he's trying to keep up. Love the song though.

Very good album. Not in my top 5, but good solid album... and Scandalous is a classic too!
The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

I really have a hard time enjoying his voice on this one. I'm not sure what he's doing that's different, but it really annoys me. Sounds strained or something.

I think he was juggling between the Japanese leg of the Lovesexy tour and back to the studio when the album was being recorded. So, that might be a factor.

and that's another reason why this album was somewhat of a disappointment for me
it was being put together at the same time he was finishing up his Lovesexy tour
and yet... not much about this album is even as complex (musically or lyrically) as the previous album
not that it had to be
but it was like coming down off of a huge high that you'd wish would never end
i was starving for munchies, and Batman wasn't enough
good album, yes
but nothing that compared to anything he'd done previously

This is one of my favorite Prince albums too and I'm a long time fan. I like every single song on it except maybe "The Arms of Orion" and I think I'll give it another chance since I haven't heard it in so long.

For me, it was not the first Prince album that wasn't wall to wall genius. There were some songs on ATWIAD and a bunch on The Black Album that I felt weren't anything special. True, the highs on those albums were arguably higher than those on Batman but the lows were much lower too. Batman is good/great practically all the way through.

My favorites are "The Future", "Vicki Waiting" (which had to grow on me), "Partyman" and "Scandalous"and "Trust" (Does anybody else like this one?).

i know im going against the direction of the title of thread but i agree, in a way. but...

in a million years?
ive lived 36. its by far not his best = general opinion of fans.

but i was wondering if i could change my opinion like i have, slightly, on other types of music.

what if monotonous, badly mixed, irritating efforts like Trust morphed into breezey, whisked tunes, touching the emotions i could only appreciate by living 325,176 years.

and Lemon Crush by the year 856,102, learning the space between the notes was something Prince aimed for and 'how could i have missed it', and singing the main vocal just after you got out of bed was and art form not yet explored.

Arms of Orion = do a search for 'Prince's worst ballad'.

Add the thought that the direction of Prince's music was influenced by mainly a financial motive and, for me, loses arty integrity.
