There are only two songs on the entire set which I like: "The Holy River" and "Slave". The rest are utterly abysmal and I'd be happy never to hear any of them again. |

I decided to listen to Emancipation again a few days ago since I hadn't played it for...a year or two. Verdict? El Lamo! It really is a piece of uninspired over-produced indulgent studio excrement! I can't believe I managed to convince myself that it was good when it first came out, wishful thinking I guess. The fact that Oprah liked it should have been a clue. The woman is about as discerning as a.....er.....bucket! Having said that, The only songs I do like are ballads: :
Soul Sanctuary Dreamin' about U Holy River and, best of all, The Love We Make. Like the rest of the album they're slightly sickening but you can get away with a little of that in a slow number. "Don't hate me cos I'm beautiful" | |

I'd hold a vigal in memory of Sleep Around, but I'd get over it pretty fast. Besides, if the CD set ever did burn down, I could get it again from HMV for £2.  | |

I understand that alot of fans go overboard with praise for Emancipation...However, I do think after The Gold album, it's his most ambitious and enjoyable'90s effort;Of course when people try to compare it to his '80s efforts, they are truely smoking crack...But even the most jaded Prince fan can find at least 5 to 10 songs on that album that they can put on a compilation...You always come with some of the best post on the org (you are easily one of the wittiest people on the org), but I do not entirely agree with you when it comes to dismissing the album as a coaster... | |
