That said...I was in a gay bookstore this afternoon and saw what looked like a low-budget gay porn mag called "Butt". The cover was an image of Prince from Purple Rain. I didn't pick it up and I didn't see what was in it but I was speechless. Somebody alert NPG.

Serious as a heart attack. I was scanning the mag racks and did a double-take when I saw Prince, in full Purple Rain gear. I'm sure everybody has seen the promo photo they used. It was him kind of sitting, leaning on an elbow but all dressed up. I saw the title and it still didn't register. I didn't have the guts to even look.

It could have been a guy dressed up like Prince.I remember back in 1985,I saw a porn magazine with a Prince look-alike on the cover.Inside,there was an X-rated pictorial with this guy and a Vanity clone!

Why would someone have to notify NPG?

Prince could use the publicity.

I've seen this and it's not the scandal it appears to be on first blush.

Butt is a gay zine but the issue has no purple connection whatsoever. The real focus of the cover shot is the young guy who is laid out in front of the Prince promo pic. He's apparently some trendy young artist in NY who's about to/is expected to blow up soon. In scanning the interview, I wasn't able to find ANY references to Prince whatsoever (although he does relate a funny story about passing out in the bathroom at a club and his friend having to chase away Andy Dick who's trying to blow him while he's out cold).

I imagine he's just a fan who thought it would be cool to appear on the cover of Butt with his favorite musical artist.

And before anybody asks, I know absolutely nothing about this zine. The pic of Prince just happened to catch my attention when I was in a gay bookstore a while back.

Thanks for the info. Like I said, all I saw was the cover and the title and there was no way I was going to pick it up.

Now if it had been Hank Hightower and Nick Nicaste on the cover of Uptown Magazine...that would be different story.

So here's the real question: Where can a guy subscibe to 'butt'?

Look at all of these people with the inside track on gay porn. Sad.

Don't sweat it - I've seen the cover and it's a picture of a guy posing in front of a Prince poster (unless they chose a different picture from the shoot that shows the Prince poster more prominently, and I haven't seen it); the Prince pic is incidental to the picture, though it does stand out quite a bit. And "Butt", while definitely a mag for gay boys, is less porn than it is kind of a euro-pretentious art photography mag - it's less wanking material than it is something to throw on your coffee table to show that you're hip and transgressive. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Well, I think they should get a picture of Prince in his yellow butt-out pants and put it on the cover of the magazine

It is a beautiful PURPLE magazine called BUTT (there is a lesbian version called KUTT, which means CUNT)

I buy them both whenever they appear on the newsstands. And I was so proud to find them in Paris. Kewl they are sold in the US too.
Go buy it Paul. The interviews are refreshing, even though the topics are not to my own liking ALL of the time.
