Prince and Howard Stern

So u'all think that now that Howard is "Free" from the FCC his radio will get worse or better?

It seems to kill creativity when you lose something to fight against--just like Prince and WB. I liked it better when they would limit him to one record a year and Prince would leak out other shit. NOw that he is "FREE" we don't even get one record a year and I think it sucks.

What do u lovers think?
I wish u heaven

I agree that when you provide people with a challenge to overcome, you can get the best from them. This could be a deadline, a one-album restriction, a producer to convince, etc. Art is about both creating and making choices. Challenges force you to make choices, and to put your vision into context. I think this is true with the arts in general. To be sure, however, there are times when things can go horribly wrong as well.

Plus, challenges/ rules are especially important for someone like Prince, who has can lose focus, abandon projects, etc. when left completely to his own devices. (e.g. Roadhouse Garden)

I often think about this example though....

The director of Purple Rain needed some scene transition music ASAP for when Prince is riding his motorcycle alone through town and in the woods. The next day Prince pulled an all-nighter and walked in with a completed When Doves Cry. (This according to the anniversary edition dvd).
Come here, babe.. yeah...
