Rate Graffiti Bridge

(rate it out of 10 to one decimal point)

Ok, i picked this album as to do Purple rain, sign of the times or 1999 would be too easy to mark.(u'd all give them 10/10)

I really enjoy some of this album, for 1990, its a dated affair, with the weedy drum programming on "round and round" "melody cool" and "love machine", amongst others, and that is proof that Prince just set out to make good party music at the time. Only really artistic track is "joy in repetition", which has no place on this rnb filled album.

I really like "cant stop this feeling i got", even if one of the opening lines does sound like he is saying cunt. Sounds like a less hippy "play in the sunshine", i prefer it

"new power generation" is prince trying to do newjack. Its an ok song, with a nice lower register on the start of the verses, but its got a really naff chorus.

"question of u" is bascially "under the cherry moon" but alot better. "under the cherry moon" sounded like a demo,"question of u" has great production and has a cracking solo.

As i said "joy in repetition" sounds totally out of place and ruins the sequencing, also "we can funk" is uninspired production wise (as was "cinderella theory" mainly), other misses are the god awful title track, and to an extent "melody cool", with an annoying scream or yelp by prince, making up the hook, being repeated at nausim, throughout the song.

"tick tick bang" is a song only Prince could do, its a great jam. "theives in the temple" is pointless if u have the 12", even the bongo middle is missing. Crap.

"round and round" is a track the hardcore proberly hate, but its infectious, and actually has good lyrics on the chorus

I give it a 6.7 /10. For round and round, cant stop...,NPG part II, tick tick bang, elephants and flowers, love machine and still would.....

5. The non-prince album tracks drag it down down down.....Release it being the only exception in my book.

It's a tale of two albums, really.

There's the Prince album, with simply fantastic stunners like Joy In Repetition, Question Of U, Still Would Stand All Time, etc. and then the Prince "associates" album, which is mostly awful, overproduced trash.

Combine the two and you get an uneven album with moments of breathtaking brilliance overshadowed by mediocrity.

3/5

Personally, I think the album is a lot stronger than Batman and D & P.

I give it a 2.5. The only songs I can really get into are "New Power Generation" and "Thieves in the Temple."

This is truly a frightening statement considering this album has one of the most genius of Prince songs on it.....Joy in Repetition worship

meh, joy in repetition is ok, and ruins the flow of the album if hearing it all the way through (which takes some time)

i think its stronger then batman too, have to think if i prefer it to d and p.

God that title track though

I like npg part II actually. T.C Ellis has a clear flow, though rap sounded better off "true confessions".

These are the great songs on it to me:

Joy In Repetition
The Question Of U
Elephants & Flowers
Thieves In The Temple
New Power Generation Part I
Still Would Stand All Time

The rest ranges from pretty good to awful for me.

meh, iam surprised people really dig that track, it ain't bad, but ? I think someone said it sounded like Prince's own "my preogative", and thats a good call. Its pretty weak on the funk tip, seems poorly recorded or mixed or something. Teddy riley he ain't, but he tried bless him.

It may be a little dated but I love this album. There is not one song on this album that I do not like. Round and Round is lacking a little, but I allow some leeway since it is sung by Kevin, who was a kid at the time.

The movie was one big cheesey mess but the album was great!

Still would, Joy in repition, that's about it as far as the "Prince" songs on this album. Can't stop this feeling I got sounds like it should open up some children's show. New Power Generation is just bad. Okay, I forgot about The question of u. That's a good song. Frankly, I think his best efforts on this album are the songs he produced for the time. Release it, Shake, Love machine, funky. I prefer this album over Batman, but not over Diamonds and Pearls. There are many more good songs on Diamonds and Pearls. Overall, I give Graffti Bridge a 4.

The movie was bland except the prince performnces
The sound track I like alot. I think it gets put down alot because of alot of non prince tracks on it. Maybe there should have been a second soundtrack featuring the other artist (I do like shake). The prince tracks are awesome, thieves in the temple, elephants and flowers and new power generation kick ass!!!!!
the movie- 3
soundtrack- 8 (9 if it was just prince)

Its a shame I like the songs by the other Artists more than Prince. Thieves in the Temple is my 3rd favorite Prince song though, so it saves the album in my book

but...

3.0

....I liked Graffiti Bridge.....for the Prince parts anyhow. I think the Time stuff is good upon listening to initially when it was first out but now they seem a lil' dated.

Do u really think so? i would have 2 disagree. I prefer D&P anyday over GB (Gett Off and Cream pull the album off) however the Batman album doesnt really do anything for me either.

I HATE Can't Stop This Feeling I Got. It's always sounded like an incredibly lame and blatant attempt at recapturing the magic of Let's Go Crazy. It tries to be this great, uptempo rock/pop opener like Let's Go Crazy, but it's way too annoying to match it.

I love that song especially on the heels of Lovesexy because it feels not at all like a repeat of Lets Go Crazy but rather an extension of the feel good spirituality from Lovesexy....

I honestly can't conjure up any other thoughts regarding this album aside from "bleh." Question of U and Thieves in the Temple are wonderful, and Still Would Stand Alltime is a masterwork, but they are the sole shining lights on the record.

And I'm torn on "Can't Stop This Feeling I Got" - Musically it's interesting, but lyrically it's pretty banal.

Thieves In The Temple ? Graffitit Bridge ? I have no idea what these songs are about ?

It's sounds great production wise. But it leaves me cold.

I bought the album and almost took it back it sounded SO sacharine. SO well produced. SO bubblegum pop.

That wasn't the Prince I knew and loved.

What was happpening to him? Why was he sounding well polished ?

I don't hate it. I just really, really don't like it.

Sorry for the rant I know a lot of guys love it.....
