Thoughts as to why Prince did not release an album last year. Could it be that 2+0+0+5 = 7 meant a year of rest for the boy?
Any musings as to why he took a year off? Christian Zombie Vampires

I'd hardly call recording a new album and throwing shit-loads of parties
having the year off.... but I know what you mean

I would say because Musicology was such a commercial success that he really didn't need to.He deserved time off .

i think he does that so when he does come out we're real eager to get his album marketing stratagies

Too busy sorting out his legal affairs - arranging his new deal with Universal and bashing out the divorce settlement! [Edited 1/10/06 2:54am] All orgnotes and emails requesting trades or how to acquire bootleggage will be ignored. - The ThreadKiller -

Ditto that. I remember hearing around Parade time that he himself thought he didn't wait long enough to put enough good material on it to really get the album. Plus, there is not so much pressure on him, like there was to outdo Purple Rain. Plus, I just really think this whole 3121 idea is an idea that he has been cultivating for a long time, pretty much since those house parties. I really think this is going to be that album that Prince fans have really been waiting for.

No idea but if he really did take the year off due to 2+0+0+5=7...
That's insane. | |

for a man that felt like a slave to his label, and wanted to go off on his own to put out all kinds of music as often as he wanted, i would have to say that the amount of music put out seems less than with that label. at least with warner brothers, we had an album every year. noituloveR lautiripS weN a fo gninwaD eht si sihT

He also had to find a label that would distribute for him an all that.
Lets face it,if he hadnt added a copy of Musicology in with the price of a concert ticket during his US tour, the album would have appeared somewhere inside the top 30 and then dissapeared the following week. Prince doesnt sell enough records anymore for any major label to be interested in him.We may find with future releases that less labels would want to take a "gamble" on him and he may revert back to selling them online. Dont get me wrong its great to see him on the TV again, and i will buy anything he releases but lets face it he doesnt appeal to The Next Generation. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I don't think Prince will necessarilly have much of a problem finding major label support. The older he gets the less he'll be marketed towards the Top 40 crowd, but there are a ton of established artists who don't get much radio airplay that are on labels if only for the 'prestige' of a label being able to say "We've got the legendary Stevie Wonder (or whoever)" on our label. I assume he took last year to work on the 3121, take a break after the tour, chill for a minute, drink a Jamba Juice or two, before getting after it up again. [Edited 1/10/06 9:34am]

Prince didn't really take the year off. He appeared on Stevies "So What The Fuss" recorded and shot the video for "Te Amo" and hooked himself up with a record deal...
Quite busy really... Only the $$$ can make me happy...Unless you think otherwise baby!
