Please Listen one more time and then judge.

Would you all listen to his new single one more time and then tell me if it isn't started to grow within you as it has with me?
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

It's grown on me a little. It's average. Still an awful, awful single choice, though, and the album's fucked if this is one of the stronger songs on it.

it isn't. it is simply the stongest message off the album he wanted to show.

Umm, how do you know? All he said was that the rest of the album didn't sound like Te Amo. But if it's generally one of the strongest songs on the album, that's a horrible sign.

I made a judgement from the lyrics of the song. wink

yeah, it's grown on me a bit. it's a nice song but not one that i
consciously pick out of my mp3 folders to listen to.

i do enjoy it whenever it pops up on shuffle though, altho it is
usually half way through before i notice it

smile

i think the main reason it was a single is because Selma heard it
as prince said, and got a very strong visual for it, which became
the video.

so perhaps she heard it at one of his 3121 parties last year and
they made the video which then propelled it's choice as a single
whereas is might not have been one had Selma not made a video.

just my two cents.

I agree with your feelings about the song and i hope you are right about the Selma thing.

I like the song, it is well crafted and I am sure it will do nicely as an album track. But a single? No fucking way!

Unless it's When Doves Cry or Kiss mach 72, some of the people don't want it to be a hit. Cuz it doesn't live up to their standards of how it should sound. So judgmental. Caviar taste on a pizza face. So sad...

I'm so tired of people saying this...a lot of people here said the song wouldn't be a hit, not that they didn't want it to be a hit. And it has absolutely nothing to do with liking the song. It was a poor choice for a lead single if he wanted to generate mass interest in his new album (which seems to be the case given the press conference and Universal deal).

I would love to see Prince back in the top ten. It doesn't make his music any better or worse, but it would be fun to see. I think other people who wanted Prince to have a hit were baffled by his decision to lead with this song. At best it has appeal to Urban Adult Contemporary, where "Call My Name" performed so well. Sadly this song has gone absolutely nowhere. Does that make it a bad song? No. It just means it didn't perform well, and a lot of people here realized it wouldn't when they first heard it. I would've loved to see this song take off, but it didn't and I knew early on it wouldn't. It's not "hating," it's just being realistic.

That said, I personally think it's a cool little track. Nothing spectacular but it has a nice vibe.

I dont think his concern is having a "hit" on any formatted American music list. The game has changed, in large part due to his acumen. And as usual, hes on the cutting edge, at this point w/out even thinking about it.

I don't think he's very concerned about competing with Usher for the top of the charts, but I think he wanted "Te Amo Corazon" to drum up more interest for 3121 than it has.

But we'll see. I'm sure he has a lot of tricks in store for 2006.

That's how i see it also. I love the lyrics, video and all of that smoldering passion. Prince can't 'bear the thought of another day apart' so soon he is sure to bring the tempo and beat up to match or pass any of his previous funky sounds.

I'm sorry, but I gave it a few tries. I WANTED to like it, really, really I did. But it has "bomb" written all over it -- and not just in the commercial sense. Sometimes, you can hear a song and know that it won't get a lot of air time or recognition, but it's one of the best songs on the album, sometimes among the best songs that artist ever created. Other times, you can hear a song and know that it's just ... not what it could've or should've been. This is one of those songs.

The song doesn't suck, but it left me underwhelmed. The music is nice, but the lyrics are so trite, they don't even feel believable -- it's like there's nothing really real behind them... it's all talk, like some inexperienced high school kid trying to say all the "right" things to a girl. I don't have time for that in a love song. I want something real; something that resonates, even if it's not autobiographical. The video is beautifully done, but at times, when P is stopping to give "look, baby, I'm so sexy" look, it's laughable. He can do so much better than this crap.

I still have hope, though! This is Prince! He knows how to make good music. The rest of 3121 has got to be better than this...

To this I respond: there is something inside you that is making you not like this song - this dislike is not coming from how good or bad the song is.

Maybe he is trying to give the impression that he can't find the right words to say on purpose?

I'm a new Prince fan (introduced though Musicology) and I frankly think that you Prince fans are spoiled, You get at least 1 new album a year and you guys call half of them crap. I enjoyed PR and SOTT but I also enjoyed Musicology (espically Million DAys and MArrying Kind, hell Jughead isn't even that bad) As far as TAC I think its a wonderful track and I don't find it boring at all, I love the guatair solo biggrin

oh yes we are the most spoilt rotten fans ever! thats part of the enjoyment of it! hey we've got to keep him on his toes, dont want him slow down and get too relaxed and happy so he ends up retiring to some beach somewhere and never to be heard of again. he needs to carry on so we can indulge into our prince fetishes. there are millions of us around the world he has work to do!

Great! I liked it from the beginning, altough I don't listen to it very often. But that might have to do more with my mood, sometimes you just don't listen to certain music. I don't find the melody weak at all, it kind of caught me and got me humming the song here and there. Especially the verses starting with 'At first I couldn't find the words to say...'.
