The Chocalate Invasion: My take on it

...only recently downloaded it. after listening 2 majority commercial releases 4 the last few yrs, as compared to downloads, the chocalate invasion was refreshing.

as I type, I'm listening 2 'the dance.' it's a beautiful strange prince song. reminds me of powerfantastic in a weird way.

listening 2 'judas smile.' funk is there but the synth drums make it a bit dry.

'underneath the cream' ... funky smooth. sexy. make u want 2 walk in the park & hold hands w/ some1 u dig.

'supercute'...i would play this if u wanna get him/her in the mood razz u could make love 2 it. ass will/can bounce kinda gruv

'sexmesexmenot'...hmmmmm? there's funk. again, synth drums here a bit dry. we'v heard this b 4. nothing new.

'vavoom' ... i like the guitar in the background. check out point 0:11, i think i can hear prince whispering 'Lawd.'

'high'...sorry, i'm not impressed w/ this. made 4 radio but never made it kinda thang. ok, the funk is there. a bit vain tho.

'gamilla' is a beautiful instrumental, but honestly, i think prince pulls such songs out of his sleeve & we deserve (let me shut up)

'u make my sun shine' i heard this long after it came out. if u like prince's gospel sounding ballads, here's one 4 ya. it's a beautiful song

'whenilaymyhandsonu' is also beautiful strange. here, i think prince successfully layers his voice in a non-commercial way. it's kinda spooky also.

so overall, the chocalate invasion is a worthwhile must have. there are more 'good' than 'what the fu*#' songs on it.

It's okay. Some strong songs here overshadowed by some really weak ones.

When I Lay My Hands On U-Haunting and melodic.
Judas Smile-Interesting lyrics. Goes on a little long, though. Still, solid song.
Supercute-Prince trying too hard to sound cool. Totally phony.
Underneath The Cream-Lame ripoff of Pink Cashmere.
Sex Me, Sex Me Not-Filler.
Vavoom-Really fun pop song. Awesome bass.
High-Obnoxious as hell!
The Dance-A pretty ballad with a nice haunting sound in the same vein as WILMHOU.
Gamillah-Forgettable.
U Make My Sun Shine-A very good closer.

It's a little uneven overall, but for an internet only release it's well worth it.

No ... 'Vavoom'

ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

back when this song first came out, I had the chance to download both the single version and the version from the NPG Ahdio Shows #3, and I had an idea:

I took the single version and cut in the little bit of dialogue between Robo-Prince ("do we forget your check? I'm callin' immigration services!") with Femy Jiya, and then cut back in to the single version to finish. (I then followed with the interlude All My Old Biddies, and led into Silicon. Try dat out.

I think a good, mindless Prince song to dance to is like Now or Cream. High blows. smile
