I went from James Brown to Michael Jackson to Prince then wtf then

I can only assume that this is the footage of him on stage... showboating then grabbing the light post and nearly crushing himself and a few audience members as he exits off of the front of the stage. the embarrassment was made even more excruciating do to his crying over the guitar, pregnant pause before hitting one note on the guitar and overall wierdness. i fell the same way when my wife (12 years my junior) goes to my grandmother's house and sees my picture of me with eyeliner AND a members only jacket on.

i keep it on the same cd as my "dave chappell as prince" video.

this one is priceless and makes me grimmace in embarrassment even worse than i did when he missed the "in the air throw" on the arsenio show, and the time his lace outfit got caught in the mike stand at the MTV awards.

I really think this is why he dedicated Possessed "With love and respect 2 James Brown" on the Revolution Live video.
Sort of an apology?

I mean he could have dedicated anything to him up to that point on his albums maybe it was his obtuse (normal) way of showing JB that he really CAN perform!

He did look like he was a bit altered. But I've never really heard any horror stories regarding P and drug use but I guess we never will seeing as how everyone around him is very protective of his privacy but that night his slip was showing.

I think he was somewhat taken aback to get called up to be honest. Let's not forget MJ was coming off the back of Motown 25, he could have just farted and the crowd would have dug it. let's not forget, this was predominantly a JB audience, Mike was just unstoppable back then and Prince hadn't yet hit with Purple Rain, so was probably seen as the young upstart by the majority of the audience.

I really don't accept prince was a cokehead. He was renowned for his anti drug stance back then. Read any decent book on the man.

Remember P excused himself from 'We Are The World' saying he'd be nervous around all those artists.

No doubt die hard 'fams' will still say drugs or booze was to blame, i say nerves. That's better than saying he was a drug-addled clown that night.

Believe it or not this the first time I've seen this legendary moment.

I was expecting a train wreck but its not as bad as i thought. Neither Prince or MJ did much. probably both too scared to be on stage with JB. MJ is used to being around famous people but it was probably one of Prince's first times.

Except for the light post thing it was fine. Not his fault though, who knew it wasnt secured down.

It quite embarrassing and funny as heck! I think the major problem he had was playing someone else's guitar. Everyone has their guitar set up the way they like it, in terms of string thickness, height, type of pick etc. When you're used to playing your own guitar it can be quite difficult to play someone else's. It takes time to get a feel for it - meanwhile you sound like a beginner. It seems like he wasn't happy with the guitar and that kind of threw him off for the rest of the "performance" .....either that or he was just off his face on crazy glue.
