I'll come right out and tell you I'm not a big fan of the stuff that come out of NPGMC at the beginning, but for some reason the song Silicon has survived on my playlist.

I don't remember anyone praising it to high heavens so I'm not sure why this has happened. Lyrically, it is as ridiculously cryptic as it gets, with allusions to vegetarianism. Musically, it's no great symphony but somehow the minimalist beat, the superlow bass effects and the whole relentlessness of the approach makes it stand out. I reckon it's one of the few modern sounding grooves Prince has conjured these past few years that didn't sound dated and self-conscious. His other (fairly successful) efforts are based on older traditions.

I agree, it somehow remains interesting. I think, unlike so many other tracks after the mid-90s, it's the production. There's this interesting effect on the voice from which I don't know what it is, but it's great.

Its like computerised Rap. I like it.

I love it, the lyrics are a little trite, but it's one of the more interesting things I think he's done the past couple of years.
