I have just one thing to say about those who write such nasty and negative comments about Prince's new music:

If you no like, say to his face!

Say to his face the exact same things that you say here! And make it as nasty and negative as you normally would when you write it here. Go ahead! I DARE YOU! Most of you candy-a*ses that do this would be either too busy p'ing your pants or backpeddling in your words, and saying, "Ummm...what I actually meant was..."

While I'm pretty positive about most of what Prince does (I tend to be hyped for everything...), I think it's safe to say that no one really has the option of saying anything to his face. Since, y'know, we live far from him.

Though I would totally laugh if I saw a news story about Prince being bombarded by fans criticising his music as he walked down the street.

If I met Prince sans bodyguards I still wouldnt criticise him for the occasional duff album and song , he's made WAY too much stuff that I DO like that I'd want to thank him for .

If I met him I'd compliment him on his earlier work - I wouldn't mention the new stuff out of politeness.

And just how does one gets to talk to Prince face to face?

As a suggestion to end naysaying, it lacks a a little something called logic. My advice to fans irritated by critcism of Prince "No like discussion? Talk to own face."

All in all, maybe the tragedy he went through has changed him forever. There is a sense of friendly humour that seems to remain undercover, cuz I'm sure he still has it. Could be he just doesn't feel like clowning anymore. "We don't like policeman, we don't like new wave", this kind of shit...

There is a lot of it in UTCM. Just remember the face he gives Jerome when he climbs the ladder to Mary's mother room... or the "Bela Lugosi's look"...


I know, I know, here we go again, the same good old debate to part the followers-no-matter-what and some hardcore fans like me, who just don't see the point of "Ti Amo Cabron". He did that exact same thing with "The Greatest Romance Ever Sold". A big buzz for not much.


That said, I just rediscovered TRC under a totally different angle. If you really get into the lyrics, I mean if you let yourself go with the story he depicts, this has to be one of the finest concept albums ever, in the sense that it stays true to the concept from the beginning to the end. And some musical interludes that seem annoying at first help in fact the cinematographic feeling of it all. He never had played or sung better in years. Musicology is reminescent of that.


I'd like to say to him : Why something like "Exodus", and then "New Power Soul" ? Why "Emancipation" and then "Chaos and Disorder" ? Believe me, I always listen and find some moving moments even in the poorest songs, but I can't stand the inconsistence, it just seems to me as if he is still trapped in wanting to prove the popular charts, or the popular culture in general, that he knows how to build a pop song. This has been stated once and for all with "Manic Monday", so why not throw all the stardom bullshit away for good and give us some real difficult music ? All "1999" is like that, when you give it a calm and relaxed, non-interrupted listening on the headphones (bravo Warner for cutting off D.M.S.R., way to go), you perceive all the efforts, the laboured chemistry resulting in pure bliss for the soul. It is closer to Jazz than FM Pop.


But this new song, this lame video, I mean, is it really something that people are going back to one day, saying "we missed the point back then" ?
