Never really liked it myself. Thought it was a real downer, and not a single release at all. It did come after TMBGITW, so it got a fair bit of sales from casual fans of that global hit.

not one of his best Has anyone tried unplugging the United States and plugging it back in?

Never liked it, or anything else from "Come" for that matter. Dreadful era.

well i think it's a great song. where was it again, in that
guitar world interview that Prince himself told the reporter that "letitgo" was the coolest thing he'd written in ages. and that was around the time of gold/come/exodus/undertaker so he must have been proud of it. plus it was the first single and had a shitload of remixes which indicates that he spent a lot of time working on the song and it's potential. same thing with "space". i just wish we had one of those maxi cd-singles for "come" as well, with 5 different mixes and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I really like the song (duh, look at my Org handle!) Not sure if it is in my Top 10 but I love the G-Funk vibe of the song and the faux honest lyrics. I say faux honest because what he never really does what he sings about in the song. The song seems to be an acknowledgement of his control freak, lone wolf nature, very regretful of it, but did he ever really change. I guess he did a bit. He started to be a little nicer to his band members, he got married a couple of times instead of the "lover here, lover there" thing he had been doing. But I contend that Prince is still one of the most uptight artists in the history of the music industry. If he did let it go more, if he did just sit back and enjoy the ride, truly enjoy the gifts that he has been given and not worry so much about the corrupt bastards in the music industry who, regardless of their crimes against him have still made him a very, very rich man, he would be a lot happier.
Dig the song...it should have been a bigger hit. All good things they say never last...

Love the song! But, your right, I don't ever remember it getting alot of airplay. It was still the best song from Come .

i love that song and the album from where it comes from. i think it's actually Prince sounding "mainstream" and getting it right for once.

This is actually one of my favourite Prince tracks. I love the quirky verse melody and it is (as Milty mentions) one of the few "mainstream" tracks he did that works and doesn't sound contrived.

Definitely not one of his more commercial efforts but a song like "Letitgo" deserves more plaudits than it often gets from fans and non-fans alike since features a truly inventive groove and some of P's most introspective lyrics.
The song is a true reflection of how he was really feeling at the time so it must be considered something of a gift to those who are forever yearning for P to be more communicative about his humanity and inner-turmoil. . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

I remember when they used to play this on the radio alot. In sixth grade I used to have the cassette single and listen to it on the bus to school. I remember Space was on the second side of the tape too.

I always liked it, although I was not AWARE that I was a Prince fan yet in '94. I wonder what other songs were topping the charts at that time, that might have a lot to do w/why it didn't go farther than it did, ya know?

Love this song, love the album, love "90's Prince" If you will, so will I

I like it. I like it a lot. It's got an innovative, inspired hook, and the lyrics are hauntingly honest.
"Better off dead if I couldn't be alone"-Chilling in its' bluntness. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Dig the song...it should have been a bigger hit. Yep, but I really dig the "sherm stick" edit. It is something about this edit that just turns me on..... [Edited 1/2/06 14:06pm] "A united state of mind will never be divided

Geez...way to make a guy feel ancient. I didn't think it was that great on first listen, much like the bulk of the Come album. But, I grew to love the whole album, with the exception of "Solo," which I still just can't get into. It's one of maybe three songs by Prince that I just haven't been able to like much.

I found Solo annoying for quite a while. Then one night, I was totally alone with most of the lights off, and the song just made sense to me. Now I love it. It's so lonely. I agree that Letitgo is an underrated gem. I'd like to hear this one live too . When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

[Edited 1/2/06 14:06pm] yes! I wore the sherm stick edit OUT! I play it more than the original version. "I'll be the first one to admit that I am many things, but one thing I am not is ungrateful...thank you..." - Prince

The only time I ever heard this song in public (never radio, club, etc.) was at a healthexpo.
Bunch of different companies were promoting there health products. This one co. was pushing a workout video/seminar for overweight people. They had about 20 really overweight people doing a dance workout. Yes, it was to Letitgo! Not a knock on the big peeps, but I'm glad it was one of his slower songs. Not a Smmmoooooth workout. I knew at that point that Prince's career was truly dead. (1958-1993) Some of the edits were great. I was so happy to have The Gold Exp. wipe that image out of mind in '95 [Edited 1/2/06 15:41pm]
