PRINCE & HIS MUSIC TODAY

I'm sitting here listening to sexuality, and it suddenly dawned on me. I GET IT! Prince has grown and changed with the passing of the years, just like each and every one of us. I was around in the beginning. I remember when "Soft and Wet" first hit. I was around 12 or 13. It was different from everything else. I thought that it was a woman singing the song. As a matter-of-fact, I thought that the DJ on the radio, definetly had made a mistake when he said the song was by Prince. I just knew he meant to say Princess lol Anyway, I wasn't totally with the movement. It took me until "Dirty Mind"(the song), to take this cat seriously. Then I heard "Controversy" and "Private Joy",and I realized
that this was something special. I was hooked for life. And when I heard The Time, it was all over. Fonky as they wanted to be.But you know what. Think about it. The songs from the 80's, you have a different perception and understanding of the songs than you did then. That's called growth, maturity. You have it. Why shouldn't Prince? Everyone is wanting him to be what he was, but are you what you used to be? No. You're probably better. But in an understated and classy way. You ain't rockin' a jerri curl anymore, or, a hightop fade & an IZOD shirt. You are satisfied with yourself, and your aura. It's different, but it's cool cool You made it, and you should be proud. biggrin You wouldn't dare prance about and, wear the fashions,do the "smurf", and the "pac-man",and say the catch phrases that we did in the 80's.So why should Prince? Everybody grows and changes people. Give the man a break. The music that he puts out now,(TAC,ONA,TRC,etc.),is for an adult contemporary disposition.2000+.Not 1984.It's okay if you give it an unbiased chance. There will never be another 1999,PR,UTCM,SOTT,or LOVESEXEY. Get over it. How many of us have reached the greatest heights in our respective careers? Once we do. It's hard as hell to maintain, surpass, or revisit those levels isn't it? 85% of us live a lifetime off of our significant peaks and triumphs. Same for Prince. He is human after all ya know. We want and expect too much. RELAX. The music that he puts out, even the B.S. like NPS, is 12 times better than most of the radio bullshit. Stop expecting the earth to spin, and enjoy a genius and living legend while you can. My 2cents
THIS IS NOT MUSIC, THIS IS A TRIP!

Oh yes there are people and MANY members (check out the npgmc) who still speak catch phrases from way back when. And we are talking adults here confused . Even though I am not feeling ALL of his music, I am feeling some cool . I loved TRC and ONA Piano smile
But no matter what I am feeling in the music, I would never wonder or wish Prince would go to way back when, or anybody else for that matter.

Some people don't change, and sad as it is, they don't grow. If one can't accept change and growth in their life they sure as hell are not going to accept it in anybody elses life.

All in all, great post mkdagrizzley cool

Thanks Catwoman. lol I understand what you mean. How can I expect people to accept change, when they haven't changed themselves. You are so right.

I mostly agree. Of course he has changed, and as he changes his music changes too. that's just natural.
but getting older doesn't have to mean getting safe, boring or uninnovative. which Prince occasionally seems to be i'm afraid, especially with his 2005 (small) output.

but i haven't given up on hope, because Prince has proved to be able to do adult AND interesting material in this millenium also - IMO: TRC, most of Musicology, also NEWS in some scale, not to mention Ona Piano and parts of Live.
Actually, that is quite a lot of interesting stuff in only few years' time! So, maybe i shouldn't be to concerned with couple of dull singles last year.

I agree with you Grizzley. I never thought it was Prince's job to make music I like. His job is to make music he likes. I'm just a fly on the wall lucky enough to hear it. I'm glad he's moved on, but one more Camille track wouldn't kill him would it? smile
