GOD (instrumental LOVE theme)

Haven't heard this in ages and can't find it anywhere! Why wasn't this on THE HITS/B-SIDES album?

Used to think it was cheesy but hearing it performed on the Musicology Tour makes me want to track it down... is this be the most over-looked B-SIDE??

I'm thinking it wasn't on the b-sides disc because it was never released in the US. It was only available on the UK 12" for "Purple rain". Also, it was 7 minutes + long and all the other songs on the b-sides CD are far shorter. I really love this version of the song. Some great guitar work!

I think this was the B-side to the Erotic City 12" single in the U.S.
I am pretty sure.

Um....Erotic City was the b-side to Let's go crazy, God (vocal) was the b-side to Purple rain.

The vocal version (being the more common B-side) was on the 'B-sides' 3CD release.

I have it on 12" UK Vinyl and copied it to MP3 as with many of the 12" versions not available on CD.....It is a very beautiful track, alongside Alexa De Paris as far as B-Sides go....You are very right, this deserved to be on the HIts 3 CD set !!

cool

One of THE best things P has ever released. The whole track is beautiful. This is P ALONE on everything. This shows the masterey of a cat who records and experiements alot in the studio. The guitar leads in this is very inspired. P was in such a zone during this period. His playing is killin'. One of my faves from him. Another Lonely Christmas towards the end of the unedited version is VERY similar to this, musical wise.

I remember when hearing this in the movie
when I was a kid & it hyptnotized me,
I watched that lovescene over & over & I used
2 play it on the piano.
Then I saw the "Purple Rain live" video when he did it
& I mistook it for "International lover" so I bought "1999"
but realized it was not that track.I bought the "Purple Rain" 7"
also but it had only the vocal track & then one day I found it....
The 12"!!!! smile
When hearing this song I always hear the dialogue from the movie..
King Kong????.....Stop!.....NO!!! lol

P's guitar playing alone makes it one of my faves. He was soundin' very Santanish, imo.

Way better than the vocal version, IMHO.

Definately. The guitar leads are some of his most inspired. I do dig the vocal version, mainly cuz it sounds spooky as hell! Play this in the dark and tell me that u won't see anything!
