MickG said: I am yet to buy a album on it's release date. Mostlikely, I will never. My time is more importaint then anyone's music. I buy it when I get around to it, often for other reasons such as I am out shopping for that day and I pass by a store that might sell such an object.
Sure wish I was cool. (Insert something clever here)

It has the original "Burbank" WB label logo. I hear that's worth something now. It's still in fair condition. Damn, when did I get old!? Wow that is ULTRA cool. I wish you didnt know it was worth anything!

i was fortunate in the fact that i had a store that i
shopped at for years and they knew that when a new prince album was released to set a tape a cd and the vinyl if availible behind the counter for me. i started doing this at about the 1987 sign o the times album. the also did this for me everytime a single was released. noituloveR lautiripS weN a fo gninwaD eht si sihT

I bought Purple Rain after, (that same evening) I saw the movie in the theater (1984) I had heard 1999 in 1982, it was already in my record collection.1999 was the only Prince music I owned at the time. When I bought Purple Rain, I also purchased Controversy, Dirty Mind, Prince and for you. I emptied the Prince Section that night.
Most of the others were purchased on their release date. With the exception of CB, NPS, RAVE IN2 SE, TRC (had to order that) ONA piano, ONA live I have a factory sealed copy of SOTT on vinyl.

Although its getting difficult to get them on release days. Although I had TRC from download copy I had to search out a copy in record stores.

Musicology was in the shops the day before it was supposed so I was just lucky that day.
Funny I've waited on every album since SOTT but can't remember ever being there on opening day. In the early days I was too busy buying up the back catalogue to worry about being first in line for the new album. Then everything after Symbol just appeared without any fanfare so I just got them whenever I saw them.

Oh that's easy, it was . I saved my money for that bad boy! I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Lovesexy on....
ATWIAD, Parade and SOTT were fun, cuz they showed up in the record store and didn't know they were released, so most likely within the month of release, cuz I would hear the title track on the radio ahead of time. But Purple rain I got in Feb of 85, that was when the hook was permanantly latched! Also Emancipation I had the following day, I ordered it in the mail, hoping it would arrive on release date..it was one day late..

I didn't become a fan until 1985 (missed all the Purple Rain hoopla in my little sheltered world). Parade didn't make it down here until way after it's release, so the first album I bought on its release day was SOTT.
I remember the day. I was in junior high school. At lunch, I walked with my friend Nicky about 10 blocks to the record store near 2nd st. Got there only to find out that it didn't go "on sale" until 3:00 pm!!! I walked back to school, dejected. Nicky sang "Just a Gigolo" all the way back, trying to make me laugh. Watched the clock and walked back after school to buy it. "No, I'm not that mysterious. I'm a pretty open book. People who know my music, I would say know me." - Prince, Today Show 3/15/04

For me it was; Controversy 1980-81. I had brought the first 3 Prince LPs after the fact, like a month or two after the release date. But, Controversy.....whoooo, that was my first get to the record store on Wednesday at 5pm!. That is when the stores were allowed to place new music in the store windows and on the racks.
My only other time was with the SOTT LP/Tape. After that, I never really did catch anymore release dates. Most of the time I would hear a track on the radio that sounded like Prince and then I would go to the store to check it out. But Controversy was my first sweat them at the gate moment. I called the store owner like evryday for a month, "just checking to see if you got that new Prince LP." “When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a Communist.” Brazilian bishop Dom Hélder Câmara

Not quite sure, but I remember going home and counting change when my mom would not loan me the 15.99 to buy the Sign 'o the Times album. I counted out what I needed, jumped into my car all mad and got a speeding ticket for 51mph in a 35mph zone before I got out of the neighborhood. I did not realize the potential to lose my license at the time. I was just wishing that cop would hurry up and write my ticket so I could go get the new Prince album.

I was really slow off the mark here and lived in a rural area at the time. My first album I bought was Purple Rain in 1986, but release date it was Symbol on October 29th 1992, when it was released in New Zealand, I remember as the CD had the symbol was cut into the disc and the sales girl asked me who it was. I was 16 and had been hardcore Prince for a year.
On the other hand I had to go Melbourne Australia on January 7th 2006 to get SST as its not 4 sale in NZ and Te Amo hasnt been released in either place yet. 17 Years ago I made a commitment to Prince
