Prince HI or Prince LO? Unlike BNatural's Highest Prince Vocal thread...this one asks what u prefer...
Prince singin' in his falsetto? Or his regular baritone & Tenor? Think...Falsetto: "The Beautiful Ones" "Adore" "Kiss"...etc... Baritone & Tenor: "Purple Rain" "Sign O' The Times" "Raspberry Beret" ...among others. I love the slow songs sung in falsetto...they completely fit what he's tryin' 2 do...but he also has a great tenor and baritone for the funk and most fast songs. But when u think about it, that's not really true...because he combines the voices so well in all the songs he sings. What r ur faves/thoughts? |

I don’t think I’ve got a preference, I just think it’s great that Prince has so many different ranges for his voice. Push It Up, captures that best, all on one song.

They're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

can't choose. the interaction between the two is just phenomenal. for instance when listening to 'soft and wet' i love the lines 'tell me that you feel the same way i do' sang with his falsetto, and then 'tell me that you love me girl' sang with the low voice. goosebumps. and there are many more of those moments. don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
purple music does the same to my brain i'm high, so high

Awww stop picking on June7 I thought it was a very interesting topic. I like Housequake when he sings it in his regular voice like on the live version. He has such a beautiful range, it's like his voice is a finely tuned instrument.

Actually, I think this is a great topic cause I was just thinking how I really prefer his tenor/low voice and wish he did more in that tone! Don't get me wrong, I do love his falsetto too, but I find his lower range sexier and even more erotic...

Low. Definitely low. Sometimes that high pitch grates on me. Also, I can't sing along with it in the shower or in the car...or at least I can't hit the notes.

I was on the road yesterday...so I missed the action, regarding the temporary closing of the general discussion forum, but, damn.
Anyway. Listening 2 Prince on the way there and back, and damn, what a talent! His falsetto is so pure and strong. No effort what so ever to get there. His tenor and baritone, equally good, no effort, lotsa funkiness. I truly dig them both. They are the "Gemini" of who he is. U can't split them up, or (IMO) choose a better one, cuz just when u think u've settled on what u like better, another song in another style will come at u and u go, "Ahhh, what was I thinking?" Anyway...some still can. I can't. I guess that's what I was trying 2 say in my original post. I knew my answer b4 I even posted the question. PS. xenon, I knew u were playin' all along...that's why I "playfully" responded in kind. But, thanx 4 the smile. |

I basically agree with you June7..
his falsetto is better for the slow jams (like you mentioned) while his lower voices are better for the more up-tempo songs. Is it me or does he use his falsetto much less? I'll see you tonight..

ONA is primarily falsetto...and most r slow jams. But, as with "Kiss", he did jam that one HI, and it worked. Then again, check out Erotic City...very deep. |
