Billboard Review of Te Amo Corazon

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Those hoping for the long-awaited, rejuvenated, reinspired return of Prince might want to prepare themselves for yet another false start. "Te Amo Corazon" is an intriguing composition and more thoughtful and melodic than a lot of the maestro's more recent output -- but from a commercial standpoint, the jazzy, lounge-like ballad is not likely to earn any points from radio. Proponents might say that Prince is long past needing approval from the masses, but his recent signing with Universal hints that he is in search of some far-reaching marketing assistance. It is hard to know what to expect from the upcoming full-length "3121," but "Te Amo" is not likely to generate the kind of love to make Prince pop and/or R&B royalty again.

He will get radio/airplay on RnB stations in the future. Call My Name was played for a year on RnB stations. This song is to pop in my opinion and RnB radio is not going to play it and he can't get on pop radio due to his age.

Let' all wait and see what happens when the CD comes out. P always has a few gems on all of his CD;s and he always surprises us by proving his detractors wrong.

Perhaps he put this single out as a feeler or to test the waters. If he was looking for big sales, let's hope he'll get the message.

Ok, I'm gonna be the bad guy in the situation.
Almost everyone's dissing Prince and his new single on this site.

People that aren't even die hards like most of us here...love the new song and video.
I've been a Prince fan for over 15 years and at my age (27)...I'm digging the new tune.
Everyone wants Prince to release another "Kiss" or "Lets Go Crazy"...but with all honesty, Prince is passed all of that!
He's a different man today, with each release, he's gotten further and further away from those days.

I am not biased simply because there are songs I don't care much for...but "Te Amo Corazon" is totally a different approach from Prince and its cool.

The song is amazing, so is the music...the opening of the song is just magic.
Prince has something up his sleeve with the new album and I'm sure most of us will have had a change of heart by then, because he is the same artist who brought us all those funky hits and great live shows...but he's matured alot, he's writing music differently and he's gonna do whatever he wants now... because he's proved himself in this business for so many years as a trend setter, an enigma, an icon, a true musical artist and genius.

So why are we so hard on him? People can say ..."oh he can do so much better and we know he has more in him".
True enough were spoiled and we expect so much more...but I think if given the chance Prince will and is still showing us that he's the one and only Prince!

Music is changing constantly and so are many of these artists...we need to embrace and appreciate Prince in these talentless times of Britney Spears and Hilary Duff.

I'd rather listen to "Te Amo Corazon" instead of "Beat of my Heart" by Hilary Duff.

- Good review! But I would say that, if Sting recorded this same song, he would sell a lot and receive massive adult radio airplay...
Anyway, I hope 3121 is a great album

- Yeah..I agree...Sting is very boring sometimes, and for some Prince fans, it´s hard to accept that the guy who wrote ´Crystal Ball´ and ´Days of Wild´ is going in Sting´s direction. I was only talking about market. There IS a market for "adult" music like Sting and Sade...but Prince didn´t seem to have his piece of the pie yet.
About "TAC", I like it. I like the melody, the arrangements, the guitar...I hope it´s the ballad of an album that has more funky tunes. No time to be desperate yet. Let´s just remember that the sugary Most Beautiful Girl was in the same album that had Billy Jack Bitch, Now and P Control.

You know...something told me to check out Billboard.com Hot 100. The review is pretty fair but with "Laffy Taffy" and "My Humps" in the top ten....should we care about Billboard????

Don't shoot the messenger. Radio is playing those songs...Billboard just adds up the stats. The fact is, young people want to hear "My humps".
It's big in the jeeps and in the clubs.
Is "TAC"? Do you have to ask?

Boy, you are sooooo right. To me, "Te Amo Corazon" is reminiscent of Santana's Maria...kinda sorta....nod

Te Amo wont do well, as its intelligent, instead here in NZ we have "My Humps" at 7 and Crazy Frog (some german synthesiser rubbish) at #1.4.10. SST and Te Amo havent even been released as the RIANZ said "Prince is too much of a minority market, for us to viably release his singles' Remembre folks thanks to 6years of a left wing socialist government and nanny state, we are leading down the road to third world status .. Hence why we will never have Prince songs realeased here.

Wait a damn minute!

The writer is saying that this is a more "thoughtful" song?
Tane is calling this "intelligent"?

This song is Prince dialed WAY down...check the lyrics, NOTHING
great about them.

People on this site are jumping on this song because it's boring.
This is not what we expect from Prince, he's a better songwriter,
wordsmith than this.

Prince is a visionary, we do expect more from him than this simple
song. What's wrong with that? I still bought my copy (support), but
that doesn't mean I'm playin' it.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I disagree. I think the lyrics are veryy good, the sound of the song may be boring, but the lyrics are still good. Again, with "My Humps" reigning in the top ten,I think we could give Prince a little more credit on this song. Just my opinion.

I don't get fans defending Te Amo Corazon by pointing out that it's better than shit like My Humps. I mean, is that supposed to be some sort of accomplishment? Yay, it's better than some of the worst music imagineable. Let's celebrate! rolleyes

I know. Kinda sad, really. I mean there's a TON of good music out there, and most of it's not on the radio. I ain't settling for "Te Amo" either. Seek and ye shall find. Better things await.

- The lyrics are awful, but musically it´s more ´intelligent´ than most of his ballads.

I don't see how the lyrics are awful but everyone is going to feel different. To me the lyrics are very romantic and sensual.

THAT review is 100% accurate. Te Amo is nice ear candy, but it is a completely forgettable song. No melody, no hook = BAD CHOICE for 1st single.

Gone are the days when the DJ would announce the new single and you'd get KISS, or ALPHABET ST., or GETT OFF, or SEXY MF or THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL....songs that blow you away because they're catchy or highly danceable and stand out. Prince is one of my heroes, but his decisions continue to be bewildering and TERRIBLE and they do not help his cause. It's maddening!!

the difference between sade and this is that her lyrics are some of the best poetry/lit out there. she tells beautiful stories that happen to be accompanied by music.

te amo corazon's music is a start. but theres no lyrical story that compells me to listen to the song repeatedly.

and lets not even go there with sting. i used to love him but gave up on him years ago. i've yet to give up on prince. yet.

I think the point is the worst music imaginable is getting played and it's riding high on charts. Why? because it's by a young group with a girl lead singer who wears next to nothing on stage and is attractive. Prince just does not fit into that category anymore.

I understand why some people don't like TAC but the bottom line is even when prince put out what some fans consider his last great album (The Gold Experience) the only songs that got played were "TMBGITW" and "I Hate U" (on Urban radio anyway).
Here in Washington, DC the only thing that got the record any additional buzz was that they weren't suppposed to be playing "I Hate U" ... so naturally everyone wanted to hear it and every R&B radio station lined up to say they played it first. Everything else was roundly blasted as "what the heck is this mess Prince is doing?"
"Gold" may have gotten a few spins but not much. And for the life of me I don't recall "Dolphin" getting any radio play Pop or R&B at all in this area. (Laura- you live here in DC correct me if I'm wrong.)
