Prince's 24 lead-off singles

Soft And Wet
I Wanna Be Your Lover
Uptown
Controversy
1999
When Doves Cry
Raspberry Beret
Kiss
Sign O' The Times
Alphabet St.
Batdance
Thieves In The Temple
Gett Off
Sexy M.F.
Peach
The Most Beautiful Girl In The World
Letitgo
Dinner With Delores
Betcha By Golly, Wow!
The Greatest Romance Ever Sold
U Make My Sun Shine
The Work Pt. 1
Musicology
Te Amo Corazon

Anyone have this as a playlist? I might do it just to see how it sounds. Note that I'm listing U Make My Sun Shine, since it was, in essence, a lead-off single for a cancelled album, High, but subsequently was on The Chocolate Invasion. The Truth (single) could also make it on, but I chose not to include it since it was not commercially available.

You may be in the UK, where I think the singles were different, but "Pink Cashmere" was the lead single from 'The Hits,' not "Peach."

Also, even though "TMBGITW" was on 'Gold,' "Eye Hate U" was really the first single to promote the release of the album.

The first single from 'New Power Soul' was "The One." And yes, it counts as a Prince album. biggrin

"Extraordinary" was promoted as the lead single to 'The Vault.' I believe it even made the R&B airplay chart.

Interesting how he has drifted to leading with ballads over the years.

And what was the first single off NPG's Exodus?
That should count too.
It was sold overseas.

I don't count Exodus or Gold Nigga because, unlike NPS, those albums don't feature Prince on the album cover, on ALL lead vocals, in all the videos, and on a promotional tour for the album. For the album to be credited to the NPG, you sure didn't see or hear much from them when it was out.

Wow! Not a single one of these was the song that should have been released (I'm guessing on TAC). It is little wonder why his commercial potential has disintegrated. That and the fact that he is almost 50 and pop radio is run by manipulative cookie cutter execs who have deemed P an incidental artifact.

True enough. Prince's pop career over the last 10 years has been a murder/suicide. The two sides of Prince can't decide if he wants to be a pop star or not and then some jackass third side of him comes in and picks out the most mediocre, uninspiring single possible. It's what we get for attaching our wagon to a schizo.
