It's rather like how releasing IIWYG from Sign O' The Times stalled the success of that album. Even though Prince went on to have other hits from SOTT, sales didn't really recover and it never again gained much ground on the album charts. | |

Prince seems to be in the habit lately of releasing "warm up" singles (seems he's done it again this December). But he's at the point in his career that he needs to start with the hottest & the best, or he might not get a second chance.
Musicology came close, at least it's fun, fast, consice. But much as I don't want more ballads from him, Call My Name was the best single on the record, and maybe it should have come first. And Cinnamon Girl wasn't going to be played anywhere, but ICP&C might have been played on R&B radio. Check this song out at:
