Sir Clive Sinclair was/is the British Bill Gates or Steve Jobs. He was the head of an electronics company based in Cambridge. He made one of the first portable calculators, digital watches, and home computers like the ZX81 and the more famous ZX Spectrum. The Speccy was colour, had 48k of memory and whipped the Commodore 64 sales-wise here in the UK.
He is a very typically British character. Looks wise he is tall, skinny, with a ginger-beard, receding hair with spectacles. A national hero. Although like all our national heroes, also a figure of ridicule (especially for the C5, an electrical tri-cycle which was hailed as the future of transport). sigh [This message was edited Wed Jun 26 6:47:20 PDT 2002 by KeithyT] Just somewhere in the middle,

I had one of his 'X1' miniature radios! You stuck it in your ear, but it was absolutely massive and not very comfortable.
I reckon 90% of people who got into computers did it because of mucking around in Microsoft Basic on their 48K Spectrum as a kid. Sinclair is a French singer who's also a big Prince fan. His latest CD is called Supernova Superstar.
He can really put on a show. He's excellent in concert but i don't like his studio stuff so much.

"The best evening's musical entertainment I have ever heard"
Sir Clive Sinclair, speaking of Andy Leek & The Blue Angels "The company I work for has now run out of diesel and I am now at home waiting for all this to end. " Clive Sinclair, Glasgow Sir Clive Sinclair (who "disbelieves profoundly" in God) lives by this maxim, "Accept things that are ultimately pointless, but do them anyway." The IQ of Sir Clive Sinclair is equal 159; it is higher, than similar coefficient the representative of a television Carol Vorderman, whose IQ is "only" 154. It has allowed sir Clive to become chairman of Mensa." 'Early in the next century we will have made intelligent machines ending for all time the pattern of drudgery' - Sir Clive Sinclair
Technological supremo Sir Clive Sinclair has vowed to make psychotic computers available to the general public by the third quarter of 2001. Sinclair said he believed the time when homeowners fled in fear of their lives from an all-powerful machine intelligence that controlled their houses was 'less than nine months away'. To some, Sinclair's ideas may seem like science fiction but some cynics said that a machine like the Spectrum was not possible only last year. "There's nothing wrong with the Atari ST, I'm not knocking the machine. The Atari ST is a super machine. The point I'm making is that - it's not super because it's a 16-bit machine, it's just a nice machine." Must go hunt it out and put on "Treasure Island Dizzy", "Emlyn Hughes International Soccer" and "Rockstar Ate My Hamster". That was in the days when it took skill to complete a game. None of this saving rubbish! Pah! Who needs emulators _-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_

'Everyone who rides the Zike comes off smiling,' - Sir Clive Sinclair
"It sounded like a great idea and just the sort of thing that would sell. People got very excited since the concept was quite revolutionary. But when you actually watched it, it was pretty awful." "It was literally too small to watch. It was just a gimmick" - consumer reaction to the Sinclair pocket TV Sir Clive says the device did find a following among taxi drivers keen not to miss The Sweeney while they waited for fares. I had tape deck hooked up too so I could get those cool £1.99 games which took 30 minutes to load, if they didn't crash first. What is an emulator? A disc full of old Amstrad games? Words can't express how I'd love my old computer and ALL the games back, that's when gameplay came before graphics.

An emulator is a bit of software that mimics another computer system - there are lots and lots for the ZX Spectrum (the best is at www.ramsoft.bbk.org) and no doubt there will be some for the Amstrad too.
You get emulators for nearly every system. Most people just want to emulate their games systems, for nostalgia purposes. For the Speccy emulators, game files are easily available too.
