Im not talking about having several instruments Einstein--that would be...kind of...dumb, since all songs have several instruments. I was talking about how he has each instrument playing several, different harmonies such in Raspberry Beret. If u listen 2 each of them u will hear them doing different things yet it's all unified.

But I guess that simpleton funk u listen 2 never taught u about that.

Know-it-all.

Awww, sheeeit, Nep2nes! You are way out of your depth on this one. Please just try to bow out of this argument gracefully--PFunk is not one to fuck with when it comes to musical knowledge.eek

What had "depth" is my original post, which he STILL fails 2 grasp.

He was wrong about what I was referring 2, I corrected him, and he's STILL preachin'!

So Im tellin him 2 fuck off...musical knowledge or not, being an asshole never helps.

It's only the same stuff Prince has been playing his whole career.

Did I say he stopped? No I was merely commenting on the music 4 a change...DAMN.

Get a clue. The parts the instruments play are called ARRANGEMENTS.

Yeah, thats what I was referring 2 altho' I may not have used that EXACT WORD. Werent u the idiot who thought I was talking about the songs themselves at first? Now u wanna come out with this "arrangement" bullshit? PLEEZE. Make sure the student doesnt know what ur teachin' b4 u try 2 teach them. rolleyes

[quote]After all, you were talking about current pop like BRittney Spear and JLO, but what'd you think made SGT Peppers so great?

Where did I mention J Lo or Britney? Or r u just fixated on my age, as per usual?

It wasn't just the songs or even the cute haircuts. Sir George did a great job recording the performances.

There u go acting like just because ur older, ur wiser. Do not assume that I am a Beatles fan because I think they r cute. Yeah they r cute 2 me NOW, but what got me in2 them was when I first heard one of the anthology cd's...these were just outtakes but they blew me away! Anyway, it was NOT because I saw some cute picture of Paul or some shit. I've seen those 4 guys my whole life and never paid much attention 2 them until I heard the MUSIC.

So please, do urself a favor---know me b4 u try 2 comment on my reasons 4 loving certain groups.

rolleyes!!!

Thats one of the main things I would like to aspire to with Prince. If you've ever tried to work out a Prince song, each part is a song in its self. The Guitar & Piano parts in Purple Rain are a good example. The rhythm guitar also plays something comletely different in there & u can only really hear it fully with the sound turned right up & a notch filter eq on it. Its so low in the mix but if you play the song without it, it doesnt sound right.

Geeze realx. Just teasing you! You yourself referenced the current pop scene.
I'm just pointing out that it's the combination of multi-tracking and arrangements
is what gives you the illusion of discovering something that's always been around.
It's NOTHING NEW!

It helps to know what things are called. Makes you seem an authority or a "know it all",
but being knowledgable is not to be construed as a insult. fro
There's a word for it: episteme. Maybe you saw it on your SAT. Hope
you got it right. lol

You know how he'll have all kinds of "stuff" going on in a song, melodies on top of melodies, harmonies on harmonies, rhythms on rhythms...and then behind all that...there's that little IN A DIFFERENT MODE or KEY or somethin' "instrument or sound!!! I love that!!!
Holy shit! You want 2 talk about mind blowing, check out the guitar solo on joy in repetition,
the best solo ever in a prince song???

start a thread, maybe?
