I was lucky. I came to Prince in 1988. That meant there was a huge back catalogue to catch up on. Finding the singles was a search equal to that for the Holy Grail and brought so much joy as new tune upon new tune was unleashed... perhaps that's the real problem, when I first buying stuff I was spoilt... I don't know.

My copy came in the mail today.
I haven't opened it - whats the rush?
Why wear it out 3 months before the cd is released.

If you're not in a rush to listen to it then why buy it if it is the same version that's going to be on the album and there's no B-Side?

I'll listen to it before the cd is released - in fact I already have - I just won't play it to death until I know a release date for 3121.

Did it again.

Stood in HMV and picked up the CD and looked at it and put it back down again.

Is there such a thing an Prince Anonymous?

"Hi, my name's Simon and I've been disenchanted with much of Prince's output since nineteen ninety five. I thought some of the new stuff was cool, and was thrilled when 'Joint 2 Joint' got released... I like to join the eight step programme to start loving Prince again."

...Smattering of applause...

"Hey!" In what can only be described as a 'South Park' voice, "Get your lazy ass outta here, naysayer! You don't validate Prince! Get out! Go buy the new [insert name] record!!"

1. It's disappointing that there is no b-side or extended version of the song on the single.

2. Some months ago, we had long discussions here about the disadvantage of the digital age, download only, people miss the feeling of going to the store, holding the CD in hand and so on. Now, Prince has "heard you" and made a store release of his new single (but you have to pay a "store price"), and you still complain.

3. If there was a b-side, we would have something like 100+ threads now how bad it was, how glorious the days of precious jewels like "To whom it may concern" were and that Prince somehow has lost his way short after the last season of "Knight Rider" had been shown on TV. So much better?

4. Despite 2 and 3, I want to kick his skinny butt for not giving us a b-side!

Prince can make a hit come out of his ass if he really wanted to.

He's just too lazy... he needs to stay the hell away from ballads and bring back the funk. Fender jazz bass, Fender telecaster, Linn drum machine, wah wah pedal

i completely agree with all that. same thing with the Musicology cd single
i saw that just a few days ago in a store for 1 euro and didn't buy it cuz
it just had the one track i already had on the album (and shitty artwork).

anyway, this single not having a b-side is simply staggering to me. i can
not believe that he'd be so incredibly stingy with his music.

if this is something to do with his company contract for the release, he
could have also done a nice novelty (for him and his website) in having a
code on the single that would give access to a part of his website where
you could download one or two virtual b-sides.

which would in turn make people actually visit the website and navigate
a bit around it.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
