DAMN, I miss the way he played bass in his jams back in the 80s. It seems like now he's more content with using the pop and slap technique in tribute to his "hero", Larry G. STILL never heard this version to this day JUST TO HARD TO FIND!! Keep Watching Ebay, I have 2 Copies of this bought through Ebay !!! Oh, and NO I am not selling one !!!!! lol.....I play one and the other is sealed away nicely I do have this on MP3 (I used the Record Deck and Creative Labs Media Source Player to copy it.....Listening to it right now | |

I just listened to this a few minutes ago, and it's blowin' my mind! The funk dish towards the very end is worth listening to it alone. It's absolutely crazy! Ooh, little darlin' if you're

stop teasing me you guys, I've got a copy i'm trying to get now. for me personally, the album version is as good as music gets period, and my experiments that leave people wide eyed and opened mouth with my piano version makes me realize that this song is indeed special. if i can add more to it i will. I already sing it to the end with all the falsetto screams etc.. it's like a ride that you never want to come to an end. | |

Besides, its not an "unedited" version, just an extended remix done after the album version was completed. The extended middle section is the give away. Typical bad editing. Nothing to get offended about, S Meat. This was the version that black radio would play, not the album version, sans me calling this "the black version". Unedited/extended, whatever. I would tend to believe it was unedited. No different from the unedited versions of Darling Nikki, The Beautiful Ones and Computer Blue. But, neither one of us were present when the song was cut, so...Point being, this version is hella funky. That's was the wonderful thang about black radio back in the day. Grooves like 'LadyCab Driver' & 'International Lover' would get airplay all the time... I even thought that 'Cab Driver' was the second single... Never heard them on 'pop' stations.... That's just how black radio was... Hell, sometimes, they would play the whole album... You knew each song, by the time you bought the album... Well, in my case, I use to tape them on those cheap Walgreens cassette Tonemaster tapes.. [Edited 12/30/05 6:32am] | |

Well, I saw the 12' version of Little Red Corvette and flipped, all the while wondering what was going to be so different about it compared to the version off of the album. Up untill that point, I wasn't that crazy about the song. I prefered "Lady Cab Driver" and "Automatic". I was happy that Little Red Corvette was a big hit for P (MTV WORE this video out), but still, it was very MOR. But when I listened to the long version, right away the Lady Cab Driver style funk was brought out in the mix. Simply put; the bass guitar! Man, I thought, why didn't P put THIS version on the album?! Because P wanted, ..ahem..NEEDED a crossover hit at this point and he didn't want to blow it with getting too funky. But he made up for it in this mix. The tracks were there all the time, he just buried certain ones for FM radio. The funky bass guitar doubling the funky bass keyboard line, plus his "May Day! May Day!", this is one of his early 80's funk cuts! Just the second half of the song alone. This is P's "black" version of Little Red Corvette. O.G. P fans will know what I'm talking about. Anyway, who out there digs this version?
----- Co-Sign on everything you said. May be really see how damm good he is. He took a middle of the road pop song and turned it into something funky. I just recently got this on CD and now I can die happy. I have seen the 12 inch sell for as much as $100.00. | |

This is the only 12 inch that I could not get my hands on.
We had an old record store in my town that all the local DJs bought their music.Around 1986 I found out about the secret joy of Prince's 12 inch versions and started collecting them.By 1988 I had them all except Let's Work and Little Red Corvette. Hands down the best ! | |

I have it on cassette - taped it during one of those annual WBAI Prince birthday specials. That jam is FUNKY - I love it better than the "official" version. Now, if I can just get it on cd... My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth | |

The same reason they never heard of Prince before "Little Red Corvette". Because they didn't have a clue. Andy is a four letter word. | |

I've listened to this version several times, but I don't have any way of burning it so I can sit and really study the shit out of it. The bass is fantastic, sort of funkadelic like and the sound is very sparse, as if the effects are left off, don't know if that's the way 12's are done or if it's the way the sound comes across but I like it. | |

Funky, makes me wonder how he put it all together, was the album version first or was this one? The synth bass makes it for me, along with the guitar work and sparse production. I recall Prince always claiming he didn't listen to the music of his day, well, it sounds like he was keeping up on some of the best black music of that time, the bass reminds me of the great bassline from "She's a Bad Mamma Jamma". | |
