Because I hate accoustical or any other type of stripped down music. I hate today's hip hop for the same reason, the instruments are stripped down and only a slow beat remains. With accoustical, only a guitar (and a boring sounding one at that) remains.

It also reminds me of folk music which absolutely bores the hell out me. I feel like I'm listening to John Denver instead of Prince. This is the picture I get in my mind when I listen to "The Truth"....

Kumbaya my lord....kumbaya....oh lord....kumbaya..... bored

That's far from my type of party. This is my kind of party with plenty of ass shakin'.....

That photo reminds me more of the prince album than 'The Rainbow Children'

In my opinion there is not a Prince album that is total garbage. But if I were forced to name his weakest album I would have to say New Power Soul,it's a decent little album to me, but compared to his best work it's the weakest.

A close second would be GB,the only thing that saves that album are the Prince songs (Elephants & Flowers, Joy In Repetition, We Can Funk, etc etc.)

Mushyshitscatology and SNOOZE. I'm obviously going to reserve judgement on 3121, but if it's anything as bad as Te Ono Crappysong, then it's going to be king of the crap albums - Number 1 with a big brown bullet.

Five Worst:

1 - The Vault - a bunch of scraps and he ruined old friend 4 sale
2 - Rainbow Children - a lyrical mess, mean spirited and frequently a musical snorefest
3 - NPS - Prince hits a creative wall. nothing new here, keep moving
4 - Musicology - has the worst 2 prince songs ever on an official album (life of the party and Cinnamon Girl)

For # 5 its a 3-way tie:

Graffiti Bridge - just hasnt aged well at all. (thieves in the temple and joy in repetition are still quality tracks tho)

Rave = some great tracks (I love you..., so far so pleased, tangerine) and, except for the title track. greatest romance and Silly Game, not as bad as its reputation but the general cynism with which he approached this project left a bad taste.

Symbol = The whole gun mic, three chains of gold story, Tony M etc...just plain old bad

Cinnamon Girl is very cool stuff headbang

Hi...Im new to the Org, or at least the forums...I've been visiting this site for quite a long time actually, over a year at least...so, peace y'all. razz

Anyway, as to the topic...I think his worst album for me would be Chaos and Disorder..but even that had a great song in it, Dinner with Delores, though thats about it.

Why all the hate for Emancipation??? I LOVE that album, easily one of my tops. "Get Yo Groove On" "Shhh" "La la la means I love You" and "Jam of the Year" are all great, and thats just a few of em'

Oh, and NEWS..along with that odd X-album...they aren't good at all. They dont even have ONE good song...in my opinion.

Peace.

Chaos and disorder

I still listen to it sometimes, though
This discussion is like comparing pears and apples; NEWS, the vault, NPS are not really Prince albums (too insignificant). Neither are Emancipation or Chrystal ball (too many songs)

What s the problem with D&P, symbol, Come?!!! the arrangements are just perfect, the creation, the production, Prince was at the top of his art,and this era was his last great one, it s just my opinion...even in terms of concerts given, i had the chance to attend to an aftershow in Paris in 1993, and i remember i was amazed by the energy of the man...if i had to pick a very bad album in the entire Prince collection, i d pick one from the period of 1996 to now...i really have the feeling that he s getting old, i feel like he doesn t have anything to prove to his public anymore...to me, that sounds like the beginning of the end...

Chaos and Disorder - HANDS DOWN. P avoids that album like it was the plague. Never does ANY of the songs in conert, not even in medley form. He knew it was shit, so did his fans. It was WB mandated bullshit to honor-out his contract and send him on his short, purpley way.

SenseOfDoubt

I do have to admit that I do not know any album from Diamonds up to Musicology (that I like), so my selection migth be not really worthy.

But nonetheless I want to mention "Graffiti Bridge". I hardly stand it. The main reason for that is the sound it has - which appeals "cheap" to me. (Sorry, just my personal feeling) I know i have to give the album some more tries...

Probably Chaos and Disorder, listened to it 3 times then scrapped it. Cant comment on releases from New Power Soul to News, but Musicology has grown on me finally, and I think Cinnamon Girl is one of his best and most intelligent songs ever. Its great, good guitar vocals and a really socially responsible message, sometimes I feel like the cinnamon girl of mixed heritage.
Other crap Grafitti Bridge, Batman, Symbol all very um ah, and yes Tony M was wack.
But hey look at his best albums too, theres some um ah songs on those, what is Automatic and Lady Cab Driver doing there and Solo with the ultra superior Dark and Pheromone. And why do we have gems like Condition of the heart and Raspberry Beret next to crap like Tambourine. Prince is like a pile of improperly sorted gold ore, you have to pick and pick to get the good parts some time and take the slag too.

Lets say we all have 2 kiss a lot of frogs b4 we find our 'Prince'

"So Far" his worse is Musicology. Which contained the worse Prince tune ever Cinnamon Girl which is a horrible record by Prince standards. But if Te Amo Corazon is any indication of what's next it could be scary.

Yesterday I thought, "hmmm Maybe I'm too hard on Emancipation," so I tried to listen to it again. I'm surprised my ears didn't start bleeding. I've never heard such a sappy bunch of crap. I had to turn that Shit off after about 20 minutes. Although I will say that I can now tolerate 3 songs out of the entire album (before it was only 2).

And then I thought, "Thank GOD he's not with Mayte anymore if this is the type of sentimental garbage she inspired." razz

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

This just shoes how diverse the tastes and reasons for liking P's music are: LCD and Tambourine are among my fave trax on those albums! (oh, and why are you putting songs from 1999 with songs from Come???)
