I am so glad Prince pointed that out himself. Is he reading us? I think the long time period between the single and the album may be Prince trying to play it safe. He may be dropping a single to see what type of reaction he gets and if it's a bad reaction, he may change the rest of the album before it's released. That's probably why he won't give any of the names of the other tracks. Andy is a four letter word.

Interesting... 1999 and Purple Rain (the movie) made me take notice of Prince. ATWIAD made me realize this was an artist worth watching but, back in 1986 when I was but a wee lad of 16, it took Parade to turn me into a loyal, lifetime follower. To my , then, 16yo ears tracks like Girls & Boys, Mountains, Kiss, Anotherloverholenyohead, and Sometimes It Snows In April were easily the best thing he had ever done. To think that other tracks like Under The Cherry Moon, Venus De Milo and Do U Lie? came from the same guy that had previously created such funky tracks as Head or Lady Cab Driver was nothing less than a deliciously mind-blowing stretch of artistic talent. I found Sometimes It Snow In April to be an especially promising example of his artistic growth, though, I guess that - and Mountains - was more of a W&L track than a Prince one given what I learned later. Anyway, Parade is still my second favorite Prince album.

This is wishful thinking isn't it? Thank you for providing a bit of history and perspective to this issue (something sorely lacking on these boards). People don't seem to remember that you couldn't tell anything about the sound of "Parade" for example, based on the first single "Kiss". True. That said, to me it is most reminiscent of "The Greatest Romance." Are we looking at "Rave unto/into Vol. 3"? http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

With all the fun speculation, I can only hope against hope the album is exciting.
It's been a long time since I've last felt that while listening to new Prince. "Te Amo" is indicitive of Prince doing things his way, without management or label guidance. While I greatly admire him loosing the shackles of the major label system, I can't imagine that "Te Amo" would be anyone's idea of what a first Prince single should be. This is album filler, pleasant enough to be sure, but not a leadoff single. But then, neither was "Greatest Romance", which also failed to catch fire. You want a great contemporary Prince ballad? Listen to "Call my name". Maybe the rest of the album is ripping funk...but if so, then why is such a pedestrian track the lead single?

I don't see any reason to believe the rest of 3121 will be exciting. The man's been in a hole for a while now.
NEWS-Boring Musicology-Boring SST-Boring Te Amo Corazon-Boring He's been creating bland music for a while now. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Right.. so you prefer Ronnie, Talk To Russia to everything else on Parade? OH HELL YEAH my doll. That song would blow away those shitty and boring ass songs like do u like and sometimes it snow in april in a heartbeat as a matter of fact Ronnie happen to be one of my fav songs of that album too bad it was too damn short. Even Prince was embarressed by Parade other than Kiss. Thank goodness he haven't repeat an album like Parade and for a second there I thought he was out of his mind but he came back his sense with SOTT and sadly that was temporarily. Once he made SOTT, I was hoping that the Prince would keep on doing good albums. But nope he made albums like Lovesexy, Batdance, and Graffiti Bridge. And I just basicially didn't feel Prince anymore in the 90s and beyond as I liked only one to two songs he did per album. [Edited 12/29/05 8:02am]
