Prince has always written some lines that are let’s just say…different. I mean, who else could sing “I ain’t fuckin’ just for kicks” in the middle of a lush ballad and make it work? Another example all of the m.f.’ers not so ambiguously sung throughout “Count the Days”. Again, atleast for me, it works.

However, sometimes it doesn’t come across so well and seems a tad out of place. A prime example is the used condom reference in “One of Your Tears”. All I can say is Ewww!

Also, the masturbation reference in the chorus of “Dreamin’ About You”.

Finally, the entire first verse of “Shhh” (and I’m on the fence about this one because I love it so much) is obviously written for a teenager (Tevin Cambell). I wonder why he didn’t revise the lyrics for himself because I’m not so sure if “I’m gonna do you after school like some homework” comes across that well when being sung by a 35 y/o rock star.

So can anybody else relate or am I just a prude?
