It doesn't bother me because I think they say it when they feel threatened or less than who Prince is. My xhusband always called Prince "gay" but he did it because he knew I loved him. Prince could always do to me what no other could. The response that Prince would get from me was phenominal and some men feel the need to put him down. My X felt jealous and always called him gay. So therefore, I think people call Prince gay when they feel inferior or just not good enough. They don't know how to respond so they pick on the gays. As if gays don't have enough people picking on them. Gays are no more inferior than the rest of us.

I really relate to this and now I've realised other people can be threatened by him.

Espeically my male friends ALWAYS feel the need to put him down and critisice him.

I think partly some of it is because Prince is really great at expressing himself and having the guts to speak his own mind.

The people that I know that criticise him because THEY are jealous.

So in some cases saying he is "gay" is used to put him down.

Like "Oh he must be gay to sing about love etc..."

It's because they are threatened because Prince doesn't adhere to the macho stereotype of the pop world.

He has the ability to look at relationships from both points of view.

There are not many so-called-men that could write his lyrics.

I couldn't imagine anyone else but Prince writing the lines "Could I give you a bath/ could I tickle you so hard you'ed laugh and laugh."

He can be silly and playful but also profound and I can't think of many other musicians that can do that.

If that makes him gay then whatever...
Shut up already, damn.

Point is, Prince doesn't sing about homosexual relationships, LOL. What I was trying to say was that I don't get a Elton John or Liberace feel off of P. Aww hell, the more I write the less clear my explanation becomes. I'm pretty sure P isn't gay and if he is, BFD. I suppose that comment was more about his music and it's meaning. Lovesexy is the mental and spiritual sex I was thinking about.

I had a friend years ago who stated that If I Was Your GFriend proved that prince was gay, along with the make-up, clothes etc. I explained that many of P's lyrics are not obvious, literal and have quite a few double meanings.

Yeah I always think If I Was Your Girlfriend is Prince wanting to know ALL the secrets that his girlfiend is telling HER friends that he doesn't GET to hear...!!

It's like knowing your girlfriend or boyfriend STILL can't share EVERYTHING with you.

So in that way he's talking about the connection between men and women and he's trying to analyse it.

Also I though Bambi is Prince telling a lesbian girl that SEX is better with a man.

I think that's a very heterosexual lyric.

He's saying that ULTIMATELY she won't be happy having sex with another woman.

She needs a MAN !! Whoa Prince that's very nice of you to offer your services...!
Shut up already, damn.

Every Man I Know Has BEEN SEVERELY JEALOUS and STATED that THEY WISHED They Were PRINCE. It Seems I MUST KEEP MY AFFECTION QUIET CAUSE it is NOT WELCOMED. Everybody Tries to DISUADE me and I am SICK OF IT..... If they Cannot be into HIS ENORMOUS TALENT or ACCOMPANY ME to a SHOW They CANNOT BE with me. I will Never B able to hang out with someone who Will NOT Listen to His Music Or is BIASED TOWARDS HIM. He is Very ENGRAINED in my Psyche and Always Will Be. He ALWAYS Has Made Me Happy MUSICALLY and In Concert. He makes me SMILE... biggrin

Back in the day, those comments bugged me ( I was only 10, so you can't really argue gay issues). But now, that stuff does not bother me. Because we know that the man is not gay or bisexual. And even if he came out and gave a 90 minute press conference explaining that he was "gay", it would not bug me. And being gay should not be an insult. Some people may not like it, but that is their problem not the gay persons problem. So being gay is not an insult.

Prince ain't gay and you all know it. Could you really picture him with another man. Most of his music has been about spiritual and mental sex. Make-up and clothes do not make someone gay (ie. most 80's bands, Kiss, etc.)
Note for all of you homophobes - Many women like an androgynous look.

Note for you -many of the people who've posted on this thread are themselves gay or bisexual, and even most that aren't are the farthest thing from homophobic you could get.

And for the record, I have pictured him with another man.

Yes. Because he isn't, and over the years he's made it quite clear that he isn't. Just ask MJ about Prince's reply to the prospect of either singing the opening line to "Bad" or having it directed toward him. Whatever your position is on homosexuality, whenever something is said about another person that is simply not true, that constitutes a lie as I understand it. The underlying question is should it bother us when a lie is told about Prince or for that matter anyone else? I leave that for all to ponder within your individual sense of morality and ethics. confuse

Maybe to terrified heterosexuals or Limp Bizkit/Korn fans, but otherwise, no. He may not feel like he did in the days of Uptown, but if he's hookin' up with Wendy, he still probably has the "live and let live" philosophy that he had back then.

Only Prince or any of his male sexual partners (if they exist) know whether or not Prince is gay. Also, as far as Prince denying being gay, that doesn't mean shit. There are tons of gay men in denial....even to themselves.

Even if he is actually straight, do you get offended when people that don't know about Elton John or George Michael mistake them for being straight? If all men are created equal, then why would it offend you if someone mistaked a straight person for being gay? It's time for homophobic bullshit of all kinds, whether blunt or hidden, to stop. Most gay people aren't offended if someone mistakes them for being straight so why should it offend you if someone else, or even yourself, is mistaken for being gay?

I like your direction Zelaira (not P's toes) but I have 10 lonely ones.
Dennis Rodman beat him to the crazy color pubes. Gag gifts? Gag as in funny? or are you really into a fun direction. What board games are good? Suggest a few for me for new year's party.

Being called gay is not an insult. It depends on how it was stated. The intention behind saying someone is gay is what matterts, "Gay" just mean that your happy.

So if or when someone calls another gay just remember it's not about you being gay but that letting someone make you feel a certain way about your sexxuallity.
that the fight that most get into, I've been called gay I say "Why, Yes I am Extremely happy in my life" Then I reply "You off your meds". Most gay man and women want what most people s\want and that is love, true exceptance of what they are and to share a short human lifewith someone who caresf for you the same in a respectafull. caring, manner

creative people like P are a freakin blast. The world would be missing some great genuine fun confusion without him and everthing he creates. He loves stirring up change.

I don't think if a fan immediately says "No he isn't!" is a knock against the gay community...I think it's more of a defense against people trying to label Prince (label him something the person calling him gay deems negative) and or talking out of their ass because they are being assclowns...

Andy my funky friend, to your first point I'd simply say that P should certainly be given the benefit of the doubt given the fact that there has NEVER been any credible reports throughout his very public career for some 25 plus years to even suggest otherwise, his legendary "mack daddiness" of some of the finest women any rock star could ever boast, and lastly though not least significantly his own words. If people want to spend a lot of unwarranted time and speculation on homo fishing expeditions with regards to his personal life, that's certainly their perogative. However, to make an unproven claim of that nature (in a public setting no less) is just wrong. That was actually that crux of my objection if go back and re-read the post. It was about what seems to me to be the larger question not bearing false witness against someone.

To the analogy that you offered, what can I say man? If you can find some grass hut dwelling, spear throwing tribal native of some remote area in Madagascar somewhere who mistakes Elton and George for straight men, then I suppose you could commended on your diligent search. As for the rest of civilized society, just who would make such a pitiful assessment of both the obvious and more importantly, openly, and repeatedly professed? I guess I'd have to commend you on that incredibly rare find as well. Come on man, I've read a number of your post and consider you a sharp guy. Surely you can find a better comparison.

As far as the notion that offense taken on the part of someone who may not share the view that same sex is hunky dory contitutes "homophobia" (as in fear of) is completely ludicrous. You can say that until you're blue in the face and its still no more true than Prince is gay. Are people who disagree with homosexuality really hiding under their beds from the big bad Gay Boogeyman? Get real. My initial post didn't even address the second question in the thread title. Again, there is a deeper question about the integrity of one's claims that I think is much more important.
