Cyrstal Ball

I just got it a couple days ago I like it alot espically disk #2 I'm not feeling the truth. I wanted to ask a couple things.

1. I got the album for 20 bucks, was that a good deal?

2. What's your fav song from tha album

3. Should I get Contervorsy, ATWIAD or Dirty Mind next.

thanks

Well, for 20 bucks, that's not bad. Considering it cost at least twice that amount when it was released a few years back.

My personal favorite track from the 3 cd set is Goodbye, but a lot of people are partial to the title track.

As far as what to get from the three options you listed, well, it depends. How basic do you want to get. I'm coming from an arrangement point of view. Controversy and Dirty Mind pave the way for stuff like ATWIAD. ATWIAD has more of an arrancement, but is not as basic-funky as the other two choices. Depends what your flavor is at the moment. You can't go wrong with either of the three actually.

1. Not a great deal these days, but you weren't totally ripped off (I found a copy for $7.99 not too long ago)
2. "Crystal Ball" drool
3. Dirty Mind. Seriously. Get Dirty Mind and get it now. Not only is it a nearly perfect album, it comes directly before Controversy and is a bit easier to digest. Controversy came out the following year and is definitely weirder (but fantastic nonetheless), so it makes sense in this case to go in chronological order.

1. Yes, that's a pretty good deal, although I managed to find one about a year ago for 8 bucks or something like that...

2. My favorites include Crystal Ball, Dream Factory, da bang, and Goodbye

3. If you want something more avant-garde, something more experimental, something Beatles-ish, go for ATWIAD. Otherwise, I'd go for Dirty Mind first, and then follow that closely with Controversy.

It's a good deal if it was the 5CD set, not so much if it was the regular 4CD set, but it's still a good price.

cool I bought this fantastic CD set here in the UK and it cost me £52.00- around $100.00, so from a long term UK fan, yeah you got a good deal-- Most releases are hard to come by here, can't find Musicology anywhere.

I think I paid £60 pound for the 4 CD set of Crystal Ball, over $100!

Musicology should be easy to find in a HMV or Virgin, surely.

For some reason, I really liked What's My Name?. Days of Wild is good as well.

a great deal, considering that there are some of us who paid full price for it and still have never gotten it, nor a refund.

There are a few good tracks, hidden in the mix of remixes, curiousities and average songs. The Truth is fun, but I've only listened to it a few times and Kamasutra was just plain boring.

Get ATWIAD. You know some of the songs already and it is a very good album... it was during the period when he could almost do no wrong.

Dirty Mind is great, but short. Get that one next.

My nearest HMV / Virgin store is 60 miles away !!!!
There are still towns in the UK living in the 1930's--There isn't even
a Maccy D's nor StarBucks !!!
Thanks for the advice though !!!

'Crystal Ball' the track - Truly God-like - Prince's greatest individual track imo, rivalled only by 'Purple Rain' and parts of 'The Rainbow Children'.

Other CB album good 'uns are 'What's My Name','Calhoun Square', 'Movie Star', 'Dream Factory', 'Make Your Mama Happy', 'Interactive' and 'Strays of the World' (good schlok!)

And 'The Truth' rocks - One of P's best nineties releases. Why he tucked it away as a 'bonus album' following a bunch of almost random old stuff, I'll never know. It should've been released separately and promoted with an acoustic tour or something. smile
