I was 4 when I saw the Little Red Corvette video on one of those video shows but the first song I listened to was 1999. I thought homeboy was weird when I saw them high heels on his feet. The next year, I saw the video to When Doves Cry and really liked it and I became a fan. Still here after all this time. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

LRC - 11 yrs old - my older cousin was playing the 45 on one of those huge bureau like record players w/ the lid and the built-in speakers . . . i was put into a trance and i made him play it like 50 times straight! he also had Stray Cat Strut that was kinda cool too. then when i heard When Doves Cry a couple years later - i was hooked. i ran out and bought 1999, Controversy/Dirty Minds (dbl album), Prince and For You, along w/ Purple Rain. i was 13 . . . that's alot of allowance money!! i realized i had heard I Wanna Be Your Lover before - but didn't realize it was Prince til i bought all the tapes.
it's been great having his music in my life all these years . . . it's something i just can't turn my back to. i will forever be a fan - no matter what. Prince is a part of my fiber . . . music is its own reward - Sting

Late 70s, I was like 7 or 8, and I heard "I Wanna Be Your Lover."
Love came to me with the radio on. I've been Purple ever since.

the first prince song i heard i can't remember what song it was, i think automatic or alphabet street or thieves or batman or 1999 or purple rain... all i know is that i imagine my first p song to have been 'thunder', i hate how the first song influences my likeness for p...what comes afterwards is more important... prince is a rollercoaster ride, life goes on but prince is forever [Edited 12/27/05 22:17pm]

Sometime like 95ish, I heard Purple Rain in my friend Craigs bedroom. He had the Hits and I popped it in and played Purple Rain thinking that was an interesting title for a song.....and INSTANTLY fell in love. And was HOOKED ever since.
(I know I heard Prince tunes BEFORE that, but I wasn't AWARE)

Sign O' The Times video at the end of Top Of The Pops (English pop chart show).
I was at my friends house and afterwards her dad turned off the telly saying. "What the bloody hell was that rubbish?" Sadly my friend seemed to agree. But I just sat there thinking that song was THE most enlightened thing I' ever heard but I had no idea who it was singing it. A few months later my school friend played me Kiss which I quite liked and then it was like "And you gotta listen to this, this and this..." It was a few months later I actually realised that "This was the guy who wrote THAT great song" ...and so the love affair started.... I was hooked. I can honestly say I've never related to music before in the way that I did to Prince. I mean it fascinated me that this quirky looking black guy from America was writing and singing songs that I totally related to. Nothing had ever blown me away like that before and it's always been a source of huge mystery and intrigue to me. One person on the other side of the world and sometimes through his music I feel like I know more about his personal thoughts and feelings than people that sit next to me in the office. It's amazing... [Edited 12/28/05 18:05pm] [Edited 12/28/05 18:07pm] Shut up already, damn.

I was getting my hair cut (8 years old at the time) when I heard "Just Another Sucka", awesome song. “When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a Communist.” Brazilian bishop Dom Hélder Câmara
