Ian's Second World Cup Thread

Well since we've locked the "General Discussion" forum I have decided to create a new "Ian's World Cup Thread". Post your world cup thoughts here ... ummm ... in relation to Prince's music. Yes that's it!

Even before the GD forum was closed I was gonna suggest you start a second thread, that other was one was taking too long for my poor slow connection to load up! hmmm... I don't think this thread is going to last long however... considering all the goings on... hopefully since it is the world cup and only happens once every 4 years, perhaps they'll let this one slip through...

Haha, Mr Kiigan. Long time no see - poster formerly known as Ozric here!!!

Shame about Ireland, they absolutely deserved to go through! Whoever wins the England/Brazil match will win the World Cup - go England!!!

If you wanna make this Prince related, they were playing "I would die 4 u" behind an England build-up piece with Gary Linekar commentating the other day - how's that?

Germany???!!! Not a chance, are you kidding? Their form is awful at the moment and England beat them 5-1 in Berlin last time they met!!! Germany are lucky to be where they are and have had easy opposition - I reckon USA will put them out, but won't get any further (though, the USA have done extremely well - all credit to them!)

The only serious contenders left are England, Brazil and Spain.

I think Germany are playing well and creeping quietly in the back door.

A few of the "new" players are making the difference. Write them off at your peril!

Does beating Saudi Arabia 8-0 qualify as "creeping quietly in the back door"?
Just somewhere in the middle,

Teue, but since that first match they seem to be getting the least mentions and press coverage of the remaining "Big" teams.

It seems like a lot of people have forgotten about them. I think they will bite another big team in the backside yet.

Another big team??? Are you really implying that Saudi Arabia are a big team??? My local school's team would have beaten the Saudis, the way they played then. Germany are yet to face quality opposition.

Brazil are too weak defensively to hammer England. England have the best defence at the World Cup (only conceding one goal so far) so Brazil are going to have to be at their attacking best. And with their weak defence, players like Owen, Beckham and Scholes are going to run rings around them! Was anyone really impressed with Brazil's stumbling win over Belgium? If they play like that, it's 3-0 to England!!

I just don't think it's Germany's year at all, judging from their previous matches, and while beating Saudi Arabia 8-0 sounds impressive, well... quite frankly I wouldn't place my faith in Germany based on that match alone, for obvious reasons...

Like I said on the other thread, history would suggest that one shouldn't bet against the Germans, yet their form has not been of their best... it has been kind of flat and uninventive, but at this world cup, I wouldn't bet against anyone making it through, the US definitely has a chance against Germany.

For all we know, it could be South Korea VS Senegal in the final... anything is possible at this rate!

I'm looking forward to Friday though... it's gonna be quite the game smile

While I can't predict the score, I also think England just might have the edge over Brazil... Brazil might have won their last match 2-0, yet it was not their most convincing performance... there were a lot of holes in their game... England would of been encouraged watching that game for sure.

I am not prone to making predictions... but wow, England have impressed me and I think Brazil is gonna have to fight pretty hard if they're going to beat England on Friday.

It qualifies as "Power Fantastic" is what. smile

"Damned If I do..." was good one squirrel.

"America" for USA however would be way too easy...

South Korea - "It's gonna be a beautiful night"

Italy - "Why you wanna treat me so bad" , while many may argue they deserved some of the decisions against them, let's face it, they had a lot of harsh calls against them, those disallowed goals... Totti's red card to name a couple... I think they'd be feeling this song wink

Mindflux, the usa team has played only one single really good match so far (vs Portugal, and usa only won because portugal played such a rotten first half). the usa team has surprised but they've also had the easier games, so wait and see if germany doesn't run over them like an 18 wheel truck... and what happened half a year ago doesn't matter shit. denmark also beat germany (2-0) when they met last year - but what relevance does that have to the world cup? none at all!

btw germanys score card now says 12-1 - usa's is 7-6.

..said jalokin, the Danish geezer.

Nap2Nes good to see you interested in "the beautiful game" - but tell me why you always put all those icons and stuff in your posts. it's a little bit annoying cuz it makes the thread very big very fast - and then it'ss loading slooooowwwww... (not to be negative - but it's not that funny the fifth time you see a line of 'fro wearing smilies)

Germany vs. USA is also on Friday, at 12:30pm in the UK. About 5 hours prior to that you will be able to see England getting knocked out of the tournament. I recommend watching both games smile

A more fitting song for England would be "Arrogance".

England beats Brasil yes ,Germany beats US (ofcourse) ,Spain beats South Korea (i am sorry to) ,Turkey beats Senegal (of which i am not sure) . A horse is a horse ofcourse ,ofcourse but nothing is certain this tournement. Untill now a great succes ,far better as 4 years ago. I guess the final will be Germany vs. England ,would be a great final. The US are suprisingly far .One can see they are not top but with a spirit as theirs ,Holland ( still excists) would be worldchampion, already. The fact is we don't play at all ,stupid, stupid, stupid. South Korea is suprising ,Italy cries (they have been stolen but also missed some 'must be goals'). Portugal dissapoints ,France and Argentina Shouldn't have lost in their first round but did. Mexico ,stupidos ,could have meant a suprise but stupidly got tricked. The winner takes it all.

Prince doesn't watch the tournement i think (somebody knows?) If he did he would also be suprised by America's achievement. I am sure he would have liked the SK-Italy match yesterday ,a blind horse has. He would favour US to become champion but thinks Brasil is gonna be it. Not stupidly thought. Brasil has easy games (which are not easy) and with a little help from the referee ,who knows. I hope prince is wrong in this ,England with godspeed.

Hmmm Senegal: "Sexy dancer" for goal celebrations.

USA: "All The Critics Love U In New York", even if they don't pay attention to World Cup really.

Turkey: "Another Lonely Christmas" as an ode to the ill-fated bird of the same name.

England: "New Position" for finaly seeing Trevor Sinclair as answer to left side problem.

Another Ireland one is: "Thieves In The Temple" for scraping through their group with late minute equalisers instead of Cameroon who are far better. smile

Others could be...

"Take Me With U" for Scotland, as they're always left back in UK. That one goes out to you Saxjedi... smile

"Positivity" for a Diego Maradona post-match drugs test.

Haha - typical Scot!! C'mon Sax, it's been quite easy up until now not to gloat about how at least England and Ireland QUALIFIED for the World Cup!!!
Even my Scottish mates are now lending support to England (even though, deep down, you know they are hating it!). Had the boot been on the other foot and Scotland were where England are now, I would be wholeheartedly behind them (but then, if I wasn't, my Scottish girlfriend (she's from Irvine) would have my guts for garters!)
Surely you are gaining something from a British Isles team doing so well?
