Where in London. I used to live in Mitcham for a few years. Just got back from London today, in fact; sorting out visas and stuff. Hey? Shouldn't this be a Prince discussion?

Yes, I'm sure it's boring to everyone else!! I live in Greenwich and work in Wapping for tabloid paper.

Mitcham's underneath Wimbledon.

Not some scurrilous tabloid that prints stories about Prince removing ribs to give himself pleasure orally? Speaking of tabloids, did you see the front of the Sun today? Horrible story, about the girl that was kidnapped from her bath, but they had a picture of a bath as the accompanying image! As if to say, "Girl taken from bath.... Here's what a bath looks like." Honestly.

Oh dear...I wish I could say I didn't work for ahem...(looks bashful) ...The Sun....

Yep I agree wholeheartedly on ALL accounts...

It's a challenge put it that way...

You don't, do you? Could you have a word?

How come you ended up there? Which section do you work in? I think you should get the entertainment people to print a false story about Prince being a musician again!

Yep - I tried them to make his hip op story front page...!!

One day...one day...

Everytime I flick through the editon I just think of his lines;

"U turn on the telly and every other story
Is tellin' U somebody died"

And I think, too true...
Shut up already, damn.

Ahhhhh, Coldplay.... British music never stops giving.

Still, there is hope. We're down to one Sugababe.... just the thought brings a smile to the face. Mind you, I think that's just a sly trick by Atomic Kitten to get back in the charts under another name. Atomic Kitten, The Trio Formerly Known As Singers.

Yes one day I'll prove them all wrong...(cackles to herself)

It's hard getting people to open their minds or change their opinions.

People are very much snobby when it comes to Prince (especially here!)

Maybe that will change one day...
Shut up already, damn.

Prince is a talented human being, but talent without inspiration means nothing.

For a while now, that's exactly what the problem has been with Prince's music; a lack of inspiration. His new music sounds like a man recording as more of a hobby, whereas back in the day his new music always felt like a calling. There was a need to prove his genius, to communicate his message about politics, sex, spirituality, and love. It was always obvious in the music then, and it just isn't there anymore. Prince is still making music, but he's too comfortable and relaxed for his own good.
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

"You still wanna take me to prison...just because I won't trade humanity for patriotism."

Happy? Hes never genuinely smiled this much in his entire life. As a younger man he was a mercurial, gemini prodigy/svengali/damn near pimp. His music reflected that. He appears wiser and evolved and his music reflects that. The old attitude and themes are still there theyre just refined. Folx are mad cuz he aint mad. The trip is how flighty so called fams or whatever are. One mellow cut and yall are ranting hysterically that he fell off. I'd keep you fair weather friends at arms length too. Why would you doubt that Prince of all people was gonna put out some funky product? A zillion album precedent and yall still doubt who you dealing w/. Remind me to never go to a gun fight w/ yall. Save this thread so when the album drops you can see yaself while you tapping ya toe.

Calm down, Jonny. This song is not very inspiring. I'm sure there are some funky things occurring on the new album. The point is, Prince's 'happiness' seems to have robbed him of someof his creativity. Remember, Life O the Party is a funky song, and it sucks. Housequake "Shut up, already. Damn!" Marvellous.

Calm down? Me? Maybe you should review what youve written about this tune.

For us or for him? A good question, Anji. What period of Prince's music do you rate highest? Are you happy for him to make music that bores so easily or would you rather he made music that challenged you and your values?

"a loner like us", interesting. Why would you think that? Do you consider Pirnce's music to be insular? If that is so, isn't it strange that he has inspired, encouraged, provoked so many people. A marvel for a loner.

If he is a loner, it's only because he refuses to take the blinkers off and take a look behind. He'd notice the following he's built up, smile, play "Darling Nikki" and bathe in the adulation.

I know. And for a loner he certainly has a lot to say.

His music tells the story of his life in some ways.

It's like a diary.

In many ways I think you're right. His music certainly reveals aspects of his nature, if not his character. The manner in which he attempted to assimilate hip-hop after having completely disregarded it in the Black Album demonstrates a self-centred and deeply egotistical approach to that he considers himself 'best' at. I wonder what would have happened to his music if he'd left scratching and rap well enough alone? Reading the Alan Leeds interview is quite revealing; if he'd spent more time with George Clinton back in the late eighties, early nineties and ignored Tony M, we may have a much more radical and more revolutionary Prince.

It is a rap, sort of. What's strange is watching the Gorrilaz video for Dirty Harry, the guy who raps looks like Prince circa Dirty Mind. I could never imagine Prince speaking in this way, even Days of Wild has a cheesy drawl that suits his style.
