One of my favourite songs.... is about Prince! Driving in my car the other night and 'Whole Of The Moon' by THE WATERBOYS comes on the radio, stereo goes up and had a sing-a-long. It has always been one of my favourite songs and I've always thought Prince would do a great cover of it.....
Next thing I find out... that song is ABOUT Prince! (Waterboys are big fans) If you've never heard it - go and have a listen. “Tuna, you better do something or else we gonna have to put you back in the can!” | |

Well, according to Mike Scott who actually wrote it, it's not. From the FAQ at The Waterboys official website : http://www.mikescottwater...s/main.htm Who inspired "The Whole Of The Moon" ? Mike has often said that the character is a composite of many people. Some have said it was about Prince though Mike has denied this. He once mentioned that the author C.S.Lewis was "in there somewhere". Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP. |

Ah it is yeah, Prince and C.S. Lewis, two of his favourite people at the time. That website was lamped together. Mike himself has admitted it on many an occasion. “Tuna, you better do something or else we gonna have to put you back in the can!” | |

Well, I guess one should never take what it says on a website at face value, even if it is the official one. This rumour has been around for years, and I'm still not convinced. I've never heard Mike Scott say the song has anything to do with Prince, but I've heard him deny it. Still, persistant rumours will live. Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP. |

Don't be fightin' now! There are many Mike Scotts in the World. One is a folky white guy who dresses like a fisherman and wrote 'The Whole of The Moon' (about Prince). The other one is a funky black man who plays guitar with Prince occasionally. Another one was a bloke I was in school with... theres' loads of them!
Another song about Prince is 'SONG ABOUT' by Wendy & Lisa from their first album... "A shame no-one stayed at the end of your Parade" (about the Revolution splitting up) Nice little album. “Tuna, you better do something or else we gonna have to put you back in the can!” | |
