"Everywhere" from The Rainbow Children...

I never hear anyone mention this song one way or another, positive or negative, and I think it's a really unique Prince track...something's going on there musically that's not usually happening in one of his songs, I can't put my finger exactly on what it is. It kinda reminds me of something from the Nuyorican Soul album that came out a few years back, and of course the intro with the female vocalist is pretty different for Prince.

When I was listening to my mp3 player on shuffle this morning, this song popped into my earphones and I remembered how striking I think this song is...I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a "favorite", but I'd perhaps say it's a bit overlooked and underrated...

Thoughts?

The whole The Rainbow Children album is da bomb! Same thing applies to Everywhere!

My 2 favourite Prince albums are SOTT and The Rainbow Children.

Everywhere is an execelelnt song. The singer from Millenia has a great vpoice. And Princes last part achungly saying "we got so much work to do...' coda is perfect.

COMPLETELY AGREE! nod

I actually felt like it had a late 86 Revolution sound that would have fit nicely next to A Large Room with No Light. I may have read somewhere that an earlier version of it exists, so maybe I'm on to something?? hmmm

The song strikes me in the gut because it really feels genuine and heartfelt and more spiritual (without being preachy) than religious and, I admit, I pretend I can hear Wendy and Lisa when it really kicks in (...right after the crazy drum solo..."We were always meant to be...") and shed a little tear of joy picturing them all on a little cloud belting the song out. Did I just share too much? boxed

I adore this song.

To me it embodies the best things about gospel (or any spiritual) music: that indescribable feeling of upliftment, euphoria and hope. A feeling of transcendence. I especially like to listen to it when I'm cleaning the house.

I think we had a little bit of a discussion about this extremely uplifting little gem on Supa´s TRC thread two weeks ago.

It´s an incredible song, especially when you consider that it was created overnight after Prince heard John Blackwell jamming on the drums as John B. said in an interview.

The Millenia intro and Prince´s "..we got so much work to do...." towards the end are amazing, definitely a song where I prefer the studio version because, like When Doves Cry, this is one of those songs that sounds better as a studio version whereas most other songs are better live.

Parts of this song might well be from the Revolution era, I´m not sure, but I think it was written from scratch.

Great song, probably the best on TRC and definitely one of my all time favorites.

Just goes to show you that you should never count him off because he can still come up with such masterpieces. I love that song despite the " Before the Truth I did not care..." lyric. Even though I may not believe in his version of "The Truth" I can still relate to the positive , uplifting feel of that song .

Reminds me of....." Lovesexy, the feeling you get when you fall in love not with a boy or girl but with the heavens above." lol
" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

This is the most sonically, musically complex song that Prince has made (or at least released) in some time. The ONLY way to listen to it is via headphones - its the only way to truly absorb all of the things going on in the track. I think it took me a few listens to really hear everything and put it all together.

It's the only song on the album that I like.

It sort of reminds me of something by The Fifth Dimension.

I can't believe you've missed all the times I've waxed over this song lol I think this is one of the most amazing songs Prince has ever created. You can tell he is operating completely in heart and soul mode and the musicianship....forget about it. This song is vibrant and alive. I think it's stellar nod
