I have downloaded 37 Bootleg Concert and 5 Studio Recordings.....I would certainly tell him and hopefully just before his bodyguards whoop my ass I would point out that he is a victim of his own ignorance

The amount of revenue prince is losing purely on Live recordings alone would be phenomenal, think about it, how many people here would have bought a 2 CD Tour Set ??
How many of us would buy Lovesexy / Purple Rain / Sign O the Times live recordings (CD's not DVDS)?? I copied the tracks from the RAVE DVD and burnt it to CD, I do not know if that is totally illegal as I do own the DVD - Probably get 10 years now !! wink

Then there are the Studio Outtakes, unreleased stuff etc etc.....

Prince really could do with thinking about that !! Best way to beat a bootlegger is give him nothing to boot !!

Of course.

This would be a better question for the NPGMC.

LOL, yes, it'd be interesting to see if how many folks say yes...versus how many folks howled in outrage at the idea of owning boots that rob Prince of his due, etc. biggrin

And of course it would be MOST interesting to somehow determine how many fans in the latter group actually have bootleg collections!! razz

hell, his Princes right hand man of web design etc Sam was a well known boot collector

I would say yes. I own 201 albums that you did not publicly release. But I never paid a dime for one. It was all though trades.

He probably doesnt have what is out there either--the vault my ass. That load up they did of Strange Relationship live from 1987 was no doubt from Sams stash and not some Prince personal tapes.

I'd say no, because I don't.

I only own about half his studio albumes
News: Prince pulls his head out his ass in the last moment.
Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

In an indirect way, I have told him that I own bootlegs.

At the ONA show at Hammersmith in 2002, I was interviewed by Prince's cameraman. I had to answer his questions while looking directly into the camera. Amongst other things, I was asked whether I agreed with people owning bootlegs. I replied that I was sure I'd read that Prince had once said how he had wanted everything that James Brown ever brought out. As a Prince fan, I wanted to own everything I could of Prince, and, while I knew that bootlegging was, understandably, a big issue for him, I just wanted to hear the music. Bootlegs were a way of doing that. If an offical release then came out, I would still buy it.

The following night, I had a front row seat. My friend kept saying how Prince was looking at me, and then later he invited me on stage, so I do believe he saw the interview. My comments obviously didn't offend him. He understands why we crave bootlegs.

I would say "Unfortunately, yes....I would prefer these shows to be released officially, with good sound quality...but you know how record companies are..."

I saw P at a club in my city once after a concert, I was wondering what he would do if he heard some of his bootleg shit playing, he would probably have his bodyguards take it like they tried to take our camera biggrin

a half truth... "I've heard bootlegs at a friend's." his music is his bread and butter, and the way they came down on small retailers and websites (about bootlegs), it would be ill advised to tell him you have tons of bootlegs, he might get them confiscated!
