famous guitar players references about prince's guitar playing

do you know any intersting stories of guitar players giving refferences about prince as a guitar player.

i know steve vai "nearly died" as he heard prince's version of tender surrender(thought i think steve vai was wrong, prince played villanova junction)

steve lukathers loves purple rain solo.

santana said that prince was the most underrated guitar player with whom santana played.

i know that eric clapton once said his favourite song is purple rain.so he probably dig his royal badness as a guitar player.

what about the other guitar players...?

Q: What is Eric's favorite song? A: EC has been on the radio program Desert Island Discs at least once. Here are his eight record choices and an excerpt from the Journeyman tour program. 'Senza Mama' by Ranata Scotto 'Au Fond Du Temple Saint' by Ernest Blanc and Nicolai Gedda 'Crossroads Blues' by Robert Johnson 'Feel Like Going Home' by Muddy Waters 'I Was Made To Love Her' by Stevie Wonder 'Hard Times' by Ray Charles 'I Love The Woman' by Freddie King 'Purple Rain' by Prince "He was also delighted to appear on BBC's Radio 4 programme Desert Island Discs. Listeners may have been startled to hear him choose operatic excerpts among his most coveted records, as well as Muddy Waters and -- his all-time favourite -- Prince's Purple Rain. His one luxury was no surprise, though: a guitar. Asked to take a book of his choice, "Apart from the Bible or Shakespeare" and denied the chance to take a full set of Charles Dickens for his book choice, Eric settled for the master's Barnaby Rudge."

I remember reading an interview with Clapton a few years ago in which he was asked "What is it like to be the best guitarist in the world?". His response was "I don't know, ask Prince".

I kid you not.

Eric Clapton has always, always given props to where music comes from. His humility is only surpassed by his talent. He once said about Prince "music will be all right as long as Prince is playing. We can all follow him..." or words to that effect.

He also has given respect to the old blues masters, such as B.B. King and Robert Johnson, and modern rock gods, such as Jimi Hendrix.

Clapton is such a talented guy and a cool human. Buy his stuff...

Yet another thread in an attempt to rationalize Prince into guitar greatness? lol "Let's all find quotes from famous guitarists that say Prince is great; they'll validate him" Ask Stevie Vai the REAL question: "Do you think Prince is as good a guitarist as you or better" I bet you'd get a totally different answer than that sunny PC quote from some magazine floating around the org. Someone posted a conversation with Vai on here before that stated the opposite yet nobody brings that one up...hmmm

Because there is no such quote by Vai, what there is, is a guy who said he talked with Vai in a Prince concert, yada yada yada. People say many things, if it aint registered it aint the truth.

blaque knight you got it all wrong.
this tread is not about "Yet another thread in an attempt to rationalize Prince into guitar greatness"
please post any bad refferences also,i mean i quoted only positive references because i didnt find any negative.
that doesnt mean there is no negative ones.
i rember some 80s hair metal guitar player dissed him but i forgot who he was.

i dont need proof for prince to be guitar god.
he is one of the guitar gods.
yes he is no steve vai in tehnical department but he is so soulful that you can't denie it.]
beside his licks are mostly very creative(execept rave 2000 dvd his worst guitar playing ever)
i am a guitar player i dont need proofs.he proved me with just my imagination a long time ago.
peace

I SOOOOO agree with you. Eric is Very good at not trying to steal any shows, which inevariably makes him steal the show. U can tell that he genuinelly cares about life and DOESN'T take more than he gives.
