i think what Prince is doing is smart by releasing the 1st single a good 4 months or more before his new album then another single before the album hits that way you stay in the public eye a lot longer than when artists release a song a few weeks before an album comes out then after a big first week the album totally falls off the chart within a few weeks...smart move Check it out ...Shiny Toy Guns R gonna blowup VERY soon and bring melody back to music..you heard it here 1st! http://www.myspacecomment...theone.mp3

Not only that - but you can maximize the single sales.

In theory, its a good plan.
But the singles have got to be killers to help draw attention to an album 5 months away. He managed to do it with Gett Off and Cream, but even then it was only a gap of a month or so. And does new new single have that much draw? I don't think so. Also, with the advent of downloads outselling vinyl/CD, the charts move a lot quicker these days, especially outside of the US. A hit single can vanish off the charts in 4 weeks. I think it will be a mistake not to get the album out in Jan/Feb. Traditionally a quiet couple of months for album releases. Less competition means more attention. More attention will often lead to more sales. .

Another thing, why are we gonna have to wait for 4 months for the album exactly? What benefit is there to releasing it in rumoured far-off April? Prince has had all year to record it, so you would expect it would be finished by now. I'm sure he could have decided to release it anytime, so why wait until the rumoured April?

I think its a mistake having the single and album so far apart. I dont think the song is a smash, but I like it. Unless he releases another single, a funky single, I dont think the album will get much attention. The tour on the other hand I believe is going to be great. Did you order a pizza ma'am? But if a hit song is off the charts in four weeks, then was it ever really a hit single in the first place? I mean, come on - it's like the music industry has become one big parody, like the old Episode of the Flintstones, where Fred Flintstone gets a big hit, and within a week, people are motioning the "square" symbol. That's not a hit, that was a product meant to appease the sheeple. More attention will often lead to more sales.

Call My Name was an AC hit, on the charts for ages. I bet he's thinking if TAC does the same, it'll really build up album interest with that base. Problem with Call My Name was that Sony was done with album promotion by the time that song caught on.
It's a smart idea in concept. Now if only TAC were anywhere as good Call My Name...

the album will do well! nuff said!
prince is building and building up to something....who are we to say this is a bad idea! the man has been in the business for over 20 years...he has consulted with the right people and the single being released in advanced months prior to the albums released is what everyones been doing. he will definitely have a killer song before the album hits. the 1st single, i believe is to test the waters and will spark peoples interests because their not use to hearing something this different from prince. its actually a normal single. its not far off the wall and ppl will be able to see the video and fall in love with the song. prince knows best! he wants the money, he wants the fame and he wants the success of a hit album. watch him do it!

isnt he with a major record company?, then it will be promoted right, we know P has had a lot of great music that were not hits, either Prince dont care, or doesnt know how to promote his music on his own

i hope he sells more albums than ever. i don't care if the single drops, i care about the album... and prince is targetting well, he's going to be popular mainstream and underground with adults...and will he throw in some more kids in his videos like with musicology?
it's a good time now, since britney, beyonce and other competion has faded, the attention is ready and the spot-light is perfectly prepared for prince [Edited 12/15/05 19:24pm]

I really hope and pray that this CD is a smash hit. I have a good feeling about this. He's with the biggest album company. I pray that they do a great job with promoting the project. More importantly, he NEEDS to release the right songs. This song (TAC) could be big if Universal does it's damnest to get it on the radio and other video stations play it. My fingers are crossed. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
