This 20004-05 Prince person is an oddity in itself - he actually is acting like a sage and sane person. He's not so embroiled in the drama of all the contracts and such, and he just tells folks to "read the fine print." Welladay...

Prince is in a great position. Given his storied history, he could lie (not saying he is lying) about every subsequent contract he has now and claim to be getting what he wants.
Then decline to disclose the terms. No one would be the wiser. I'm sure, though, that Skipper got what he wanted. Though, it's hard to see what a record label gets out of this deal. From a purely label owner standpoint, I would consider Prince a diminished commodity, a legacy act at this point -- not a hot seller who's a hit with the kids. Someone school me on his caché, from a label's perspective, please. Thanks.

Yeah, eye-bag removals, that's why he set up home in Beverley Hills to get the lowdown on the best surgeons! Really though, I dunno if he's had work done or not, but yep, he's getting older, and he's starting to look like it, just like we all do/will. I think his tiny sparrow-like lean frame doesn't lend itself well to age, because at least if you had a bit of meat on you, the wrinkles have something to drink from and stay plumped out just a little bit longer. Oh, and didn't really learn anything new from the press conference, but then I'm not a member of the press!

Someone school me on his caché, from a label's perspective, please. Thanks. I think the trick is, since he most likely recorded the single/album AND made the video on his own dime, the label doesn't have to pay those substantial upfront costs. They get a finished product to promote and sell, so they probably start making a profit right away, since they don't have to recoup all the studio/video costs. (There's still some promotion cost, but I think this approach makes them figure out how to get the most bang for the buck: how to maximize exposure while minimizing promotion expenditures.) Their actual percentage per unit sold is prob lower than with other artists, and of course they won't be owning the works, but there's still a definite profit motive there. At any rate, this was the reasoning of Sony/Columbia, as reported early last year (I think it was the Rolling Stone article that discussed the deal and included the points I mentioned). Hope this helped answer your question. "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015

After all the hype, (fake) rumours and information already released, did anybody else think this press conference felt a little flat (given the information reported so far from it)? Basically, a new single, album to come and a tour and a distribution deal with Universal, all information we knew a few days ago.
There were all those rumours of 3121 being a big new project, perhaps a movie of sorts, and yet it seems it's just a routine album release like Musicology. And we still don't know what 3121 was really about, I mean, okay, the date, but what made Prince decide on the numbers back at the beginning of the year. Did no one at the press conference ask??!

i think he looks really good. healthy. and any eye baggage he's got is pretty minimal compared to lots of other pushin-50 year olds. but i couldn't help but think - after reading some of the comments here and on other threads remarking on if he's maybe gained some weight, if he has maybe THAT'S the reason for the flowing tunic type look he seems to be favoring at the moment. j/k Like the baggy clothing? He is lookin plumped.

I think anything this harsh should come with a picture of yourself so we can all have a shot at that too. Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.
