Did anyone else feel like she was serving him in one form or another through alot of the scenes? Well, um yeah! She's basically the hot servant girl he starts lusting after. Reminds me of some former employee of his, what was her name..... don't you mean "what were their names" and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Based on this song and the care he obviously has taken with the video, I think we're looking at what could end up being his best work in a decade. The song is gorgeous. It doesn't "rock", and it ain't "funky" - unless you dig a little deeper. To me, it just feels right. I think it's miles ahead of anything on Musicology - so I'm quite optimistic about 3121. But what the hell do I know? me too. although "Reflection" is a mighty good track lol. i think the song is lovely and the video is very nice. it feels like some effort is going into this project and the whole actual pressed cd with booklet and video's makes me happy too since the npgmc releases are great but there is nothing that beats a real "project" with a cd and video's looking forward to 3121 a lot. much more so than i was to Musicology. As a lead off single, this may be a slow song but imo it's got a lot more going on than Musicology. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

This video wouldn't be a subliminal love letter to Mayte would it? Watch it agian with that in mind. that is the first thing i thought about when i heard the song especially the last two verses made me go "uhm, wait a minute is this about Mayte or what?" mainly because he used the same kind of phrases in the time the two of them were together. coupled with the spanish vibe and all it just got me wondering then i saw the vid and was "yup, totally about Mayte" * the lyrics to the song * the entire vibe and look of the vid * fcuz the leading lady, who's vaguely Mayte-ish * the "ballet" dancers on the metallic wires * the scene where the girl wrings out a cloth is an exact copy of a scene from Mayte in "The One". and there are more little references here. sure, there will be a lot of people to dispute this to the bone, but i just like 2 think about it like this. it's good this way. either as closure or as a means to get some dialogue going again between the two. very nice. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Though I'm still not taken with the song (yet, anyway) the video is beautiful.

I really hate it! The video and the song. Prince is lookin' mighty good though, as usual . But I do wish his hair was longer this time around, he did the short thing all throughout last year. C'mon, you're supposed to re-invent yourself with each new album! Don't get lazy on us Prince. If you really truly wanna hear a beautiful song, 2 words: LIBERIAN GIRL. The words, the chorus, the music, the passionate way in which it is sung, has got Prince's new dead-in-the-water song beat by a mile. I would prefer anything Jacko did, done, or ever will do compared to what I just heard tonight . I'm still a big fan though, I just don't think every Prince song/video he shoots out is a winner like some people pass out and go crazy for.

Just watched it. It's a fabulous video and song. Starts off like my current favourite Prince tune God Instrumental. I think it could be a contender for one of my top 10 Prince tunes ever.
The video is up there with Corvette and Kiss.

Just checked the video and yes a very classy looking production, glad to see that he is making an effort and remembering money thrown into a video definately helps, kinda fed up of the 'on the cheap' productions of old...
I think the album will have some kick ass tunes and we shouldnt judge it on this ballad, though I think its a great song and will be popular on the charts and radio etc....and on the music video channels. Lets see him back in the public eye where he belongs !! All in all I am very happy with how 2005 panned out and it looks like 2006 is going to be another great year for Prince and us !!!

IT's an unexpected and quality direction. I'm very happily suprised. I don't know why, but something about it reminds me of "THieves in the Temple" of all songs, for some reason! The song is really nice. I usually go for more of his dancey/funkier stuff but this song is very sexy I like it! Oh and it is nice to see Prince in a romantic type video again! He looks great! I swear that man gets sexier with every passing year!

Sounds like a mediocre could-have-made-it-in-his-sleep kind of song. I hope it isn’t taken off an album that has no theme and is just a collection of mediocre pop numbers… coz this is the kinda song that comes from those kind of albums.

I can’t believe I’m saying this about a Prince video, but this is one of the finest videos I’ve seen this year -- from anyone.
So many videos are so obnoxiously literal minded that you feel you’re gagging on the song or they go so far in the opposite direction that the video is nothing more than free-association weirdness just for the sake of weirdness. But this video strikes a great balance between offering meaning and leaving space for personal interpretation. My favorite moments thus far: - The opening shot where the camera is pushed in in graduated stages to a historic building Prince is walking towards that is extraordinarily backlit in yellow brilliance and reflecting in a pool of water out front, setting up the real and imagined, light and shadow motif that will be used throughout. - As the music begins, the cutting back and forth between Prince and his admired with camera movement so expertly inspired that it's as if they were dancing a tango together. - Near the end where Prince is seated at a table eating a meal when the background becomes an apparition or psychic painting upon the wall, seemingly conjured from the very potent emotional connection that once took place in this space (or simply a video he’s projecting, if you prefer the literal explanation of this phenomenon); and then the final shot of Prince reaching out to stroke this woman’s face using only the shadow of his hand. And, finally, I love the final image of Prince standing all alone with his back to the camera in the corner of the shot, this time facing the pool of water from the other side looking back at the earlier reflection he created standing in the backlit opening of the building at the start of the video. But then the Prince in the foreground fades out and the reflection of the person remains. I just hope the video inspired Prince enough that he’ll be more inclined in the future to put the visual side of his work in the hands of talented professionals. It makes such a difference; I mean, if you’re going to even bother having a visual side. Now if only the album artwork could be handled by great artists. Eh, probably not going to happen. --- I-watched-the-video-again edit... [Edited 12/14/05 5:39am]
