Yea, the song is frothy and nice. Our masterwork has yet to come. There has to be a big improvement to come any where near as great as Andre3000 or some such new jack.

Props to Salma for a beautiful clip... Song is still a bore... The horn part in the last 10 seconds is nice... If anything, today's premiere just makes me want to watch "Frida" again.

Mmmm, well I've listened to the song five times (both with and without the video) and being as objective as possible I am more than underwhelmed.

Regarding the video firstly - for this matters very little to me, as I feel the medium 9/10 detracts (with the exception of Cunningham, Jonze, Gondry, et al) from the overall effect of a song - I feel Hayek has produced a schmaltzy overly-produced if quite inoffensively bland affair.

Sure it complements the mood of the song, but when I think of Marrakesh (having sampled and lapped up its flavour) it captures little of its energy, vibrancy or colour.

But negatives aside, for a Prince video (which let's face it are as shambolically inconsistent as they come) its very pleasant, glossy and I suppose could have been expecting far worse. In truth its very much how I imagined.


Regarding the tune. I'm more than disappointed.

From the title, video/promotional imagery pre-release I suspected a latino-jazz ballad affair and that's exactly what's been delivered. This is Prince playing it ultra safe - especially for a first single.

I am inclined to agree with the Santana comparisons and 'Money Don't Matter' echos while lacking a powerful chorus that the latter undeniably contains.

Where exactly is the chorus? It appears to be simply a refrain... there is little by way of hooks as the song drifts by at a steady pace without building or pulling the listener.

The guitar solo raised a cheeky smile when (in the video) you see P parping along to the notes, which on first view is quiet amusing, but this novelty doesn't really satisfy an underwhelming piece of Prince guitar work.

This is Prince by numbers - heck even Dinner With Dolores had more spice, lyrical potency - this is coffee house/MoR lounge jazz and as I've said for a lead off single - bah! Prince could fart these kinds of sounds out any day of the week.

Should be an album released with videos for all tracks, with high-production values, well known directors, and a theme to tie all the tracks in together.

Anyone remember when an album would lead with singles like Gett Off or Sexy MF? Yes prince still looks the same, but I just can't dig the sound of this song from him. Ricky Martin could have done this. Not written - but he could have put it out one octave down. Don't hate me for bringing up the past, cause I like the new stuff too, this just sounds too...wimpy to catch my attention. Yes it is written well, better than most songwriters out now and for that I still give props.

And really what is his affection for the girl in this video? Did she serve him so well he became enamoured with her? Seriously. Did anyone else feel like she was serving him in one form or another through alot of the scenes?

OK this will be my very first post on the org, after having been a member for a few years.

On to the song.. i just had a few listens to it, and i liked it a lot the first time i heard it, and it only gets better the more often i hear it. IT reminds me a bit of songs like money don't matter 2nite.. just a nice chord progression (and this is a very well thought-out one) which sortof repeats throughout the song. The devil is in the details though, and there are many here. Just notice such subtleties as the harp, the incredible lushness and warmth of the stringpad P uses. And then there's the phased synthstrings which give the whole thing some extra sparkle towards the end.. just like 1976 never passed...lol.

In fact, there's quite a wealth of things going on in here.. but it takes someone like P to make it sound like the relaxed thing it is. For those of you who dig the P of the 80's, just imagine what this would sound like had P used his trusty old linndrum, and you'd have something that would make a perfect fit on an album like sign o the times.

So yeah, i do enjoy 'te amo corazon' a lot, and suspect there's a lot to look forward to on his new album.

it was okay. but i am sooooo tired of Prince always playing opposite some white lady. i know i am raining on y'alls parade and everything....anyway. the video was nice.

okay so she wasn't actually white but y'know what i mean. i mean doesn't it hurt your feelings a little that he is never shown on film or in videos being into any black women(talking to the sisters,now)?
