cloud9 I like it! I think that soft romantic vibe that it has going on is great. The music just conjurs up visions of being on a romantic vacation with your mate and you are driving down a coast somewhere in a convertible. The wind is blowing through your hair, you are holding hands, and the sun is setting/reflecting off the water and all of this beautiful peacefulness is happening as this song plays. BEAU-TI-FUL nod clapping

With that imagery, it would work better as a summer release, not a mid-winter one. I would rather be thinking, 'jeez this is the best song I have ever heard, I hope the album's as good as this!' U2, now there's a band that knows how to put out a great first single - look at the last few albums, Discotheque, Beautiful Day, Vertigo, all pumping rock songs that get your juices going.

Fact is, Prince has never had much success with ballads or love songs as singles, apart from The Most Beautiful Girl, and it seems ever since that he's been obsessed with having another soft romantic song as a big hit. I believe the market is saturated with syrupy r'n'b love songs and Prince should instead play to his strengths - rock/funk and quirky pure pop numbers.

Didn't have any preconceived ideas about TAC...I kinda like it now, pretty smooth, and it feels like it's going to grow on me.

In fact, it reminds me of another song and I can't quite put my finger on which one... hmmm

You see, for me, it conjours up visions of the tv channel where they advertise those vacations.....

Seriously, try saying "After a refreshing dip in the water, enjoy a cocktail at one of two poolside bars..." or "The whole package cost £799 for six nights....." over the top of the music. You'll be shocked how well it fits!

yo! I hope your not talkin' shit cause after my first listen all I could think of was it sounds PERFECT for a movie...and it's been said this isn't actually a single...maybe that's cause this is from the movie? oi! As a single...ehhh..not so much....as a song from a movie...it's perfect! I can be excited about that.[/quote]

No, it really sounds like it was made for a movie, though I pray he doesn't make mine..

Yes, Mendes I like the horns at the end too. I especially love the 15 seconds just before the 2nd verse that start around 2:10 into the song. That instrumental segment is brilliant and gives me hope for the cd.

**The music is so beautiful and romantic that I feel the lyrics get in the way. In this case, less is more IMO. I wish the only words spoken in the song were,
Te Amo Corazon.**

I am very happy with it!! It's a nice tune that's gonna be a breather song inbetween some real funky and rock latino stuff that will turn up on 3121.

Trust me on that, in fact i will copy and paste this post into the "so, what do you think of the new 3121 album', when people are raving about it!!

It seems my worst fears are realised. The joy, elation that I once experinced with a new release is now a very distant memory. There is no other artist that can evoke the emotion which he can with true genius in his music, but I feel he is now a man who fails to inspire.More bland elevator music.Isn't it a pity.....

I like the song. Has hints to the sound of "The Mambo Kings" movie, however I'm really looking for some funk like in those sweet spring days in 1987 when Sign "O" The Times came out. Just looking for a little old time funk so I can tell all the naysayers that Prince is still the KING!

Well I really like the intro. I think If Terrence Trent D'arby did this same song people would not be as hard on it. And I am NOT one of those people that think that Prince can do no wrong, I just don't think the song is all that bad.

i wasn't expecting anything out of the song, so that part of the question is pointless. if any of you have learned anything in the world of prince fandom, it's to expect absolutely nothing.

as for what i think of it: it's a nice little chill-out song. the arrangement of the song is what i kinna like the most--for some reason it reminds me of something that'd be in the title sequence of some new-school james bond film. also for some reason it reminds me of a song (or two) that p has done in the past, but i can't put my finger on exactly what song(s). that, and for some reason the way prince pronounces the song title cracks me the fuck up. seriously, i lost track of the 2nd verse because i was laughing so hard!

starstarstar outta 5 stars, in my book. i ain't gonna dog it, but i ain't gonna give it a lotta props either. it is what it is.

It's a good teaser for an album, I'll say that much.

That's the best way I'd probably put it, as well. I'm sure that when we get about a month away from release, something funky might just rock us to bits.

Maybe he is following "The Girl Is Mine" format where you have a laid back single and a killer CD.

"Dinner With Delores" was a pretty laid back first single too but "C&D" had good songs.

I hope it's one of Prince's misleading tricks to get people to buy the album. Since the general public these days never gets past mellow or midtempo, hopefully he's trying to mislead them into buying an album full of hardcore funk totally unlike the lead single. The same strategy as the lead single "Kiss" and the "Parade" album but in reverse.

Oh, and maybe it's the cynic in me but any lead single that's a ballad and in a language foreign to the artist is bound to fail unless it were coming on the heels of an album like Purple Rain. The name Te Amo Corazon is not a good sign either. If he were just throwing us off with that title it would be one thing but to play it straight is.... disbelief

Having said that I'll listen to it and try to keep an open mind. wink

Has exactly the same vibe as Sting's cover of "The Windmills of Your Mind".

3 outta 5 stars.....for now (I've grown to love the Sting song, so there may be room for improvement over time).

I agree. The thing is I don't mind the song at all but as far as it being a hit... I don't hear a hit.

Now I've lived with it for a good few hours and about 20 odd listens...

I love it. The first moments before the vocals kick in show great promise for the album and Prince's current muse. A new arrangement from Clare Fischer (how 1986 - fantastic!) and what is generally a lovely song... This is far more interesting than anything from Musicology.

And the fact that we're all here listening to it repeatedly whether loving it or trying to find something good about it pretty much says that there's something about the song that we're finding listenable. After all, if you hear a song you're really not keen on, you'll probably not listen to it after the first play. If you've played this more than once then there must be something about it that's keeping you interested.

Like most everyone else, my opinion of the song...

YAWN

This is really bland stuff, ala Musicology.

I think it's time to accept the fact Prince is far past his creative prime. It happens to almost every artist...they have a peak of creativity, and then they just fade off.

And for what it's worth, I'd be suprised if this song cracks the top 25 anywhere.

Not wanting to cause offence... But why is your username named after a line from Musicology if you find it so bland?

Just asking.

Prince went "Antonio Carlos Jobim" on that ass!! Great song. It probably will take most listeners (even some within the NPGMC) a little time to catch on to his new direction however. This is because they listen with just their ears and not their heart and mind. Nevertheless, the song is rich in latin rythms and the Santana like solo is off the hook. I can't wait to hear the entire album.
