Chances of Prince albums ever getting remastered? Just wondering.
Some of those 80s ones could definitely use it. That would make my life if they came out with great sound...pounding bass, etc.

Yes...it was just a compilation album, no remastering was done. "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. i know this topic is abit played out for alot of people so i'll reply for you as most people now avoid threads like these.
from what i know prince lowered his demands to full control of masters to a better portion of them, thus making negotiations more likely. i think this had something/alot to do with the influence of his lawyer/advisor londell williams. supposedly they were in talks, and the whole saga with prince asking fans for boots to be sent back to him was supposedly in relation to this, proving that WB released his music illegally (presumably without his consent or something - supposedly scandalous sex suite is one of these but its still sold in shops now) and giving him leverage against them. but nothing was heard of it though i think one of the mods mystically mentioned prince in a meeting using it (in LA) but that was the end of that. either way, since then nothings been heard of it, though there is a company in america that gets permission to remaster material from bands and so on and releases them remastered on their own label, i think its gold discs or something (the name has something to do with gold from what i rememeber). anyway, fans often request stuff on their website and supposedly when someone requested prince the guy who runs it posted saying they couldn't do prince as the records were already down to be done by WB - leading, i suppose, to speculation that some sort of deal had been done. but again, nothing official has been heard and thats the last rumour i heard about it, and that must be over a year ago now. my guess would be, that what with the industry the way it is and the currency princes back catalogue has (does anyone have a better unmastered one at the moment - especially with the 80s being back in vogue?) he and WB could easily come to a deal, so i expect its when prince fancies it really. i can't imagine WB being a stick in the mud over it unless prince wants everything back permanently and londell has already said this isn't the case anymore. we'll see, but i wouldn't hold your breath!

I don't see what the big deal is...
Every "remastered" CD I have ever heard only had the sound level increased. I did that to some songs in Cool Edit Pro & they sound just like "remastered" tracks. I think it's a great big ripoff. Let's boost the sound level of this old ass CD & re-release it so stupid, gullible, fans will buy it up. Be sure to add another picture or 2 & song lyrics to make it seem like a great deal. Until someone shows me a real difference, that is.

I mean, we're not talking about historical recordings from the Bayreuth festival from the 1920s made with some museum-like equipment here, it is stuff from the 80s! I was really pissed when I wanted to buy some Sting albums a few years ago and I found out that you could only buy "remastered" or "enhanced" versions of them nowadays. Hell, they even had remastered "Mercury falling" from 1996!!! And they wanted tons of money for those CDs! I didn't buy one. As long as they wouldn't add one CD to each 80s Prince album with outtakes from the specific era in good quality, I would do the same as I did with the WB "Very best of Prince" rip off - ignore it!

i think once we've all made peace with the fact that his albums will never get remastered, about a year later it'll happen, right in time for us not to give a damn anymore.

There are a whole lot of things that go into a remaster, not the least of which is equalizing out the sound mix. Prince's early CDs sound tinny, and are lacking much of the proper seperation and mix. You can tweak the knobs, but you still aren't going to get a proper mix. I HAVE heard remasters that I wasn't impressed with (Shout: The Very Best of Tears For Fears springs to mind), but overall most are actually quite good. The Pink Floyd catalogue remasters are a perfect example of a major correction being made to the orgininal, shitty sound on the first releases (and, in the case of The Wall, they didn't boost the volume much at all. All that was corrected was the seperation and mix). Hey, you don't want 'em, don't buy 'em, but don't assume that we are all gullible. There are plenty of audiophiles who CAN tell the difference, and want these done properly. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Well, I made peace with it about three years ago, so they should drop any day now!!! Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Buy the following album http://tds.nin.com/index2.html listen to it and then compare it to the initial release and only then you will understand the true meaning of "remastered"... Neversin. O(+>NIИ<+)O

Do a comparison with the "Sign "O" The Times" vinyl (something you probably don't even own or have even heard considering your post...) and the CD and be sure to use your ears... It seems to me people like you don't even have a clue as to what kind of half-assed job they did when they released Prince's material on CD, not to mention about 99% of all CD's released in the 1980's and 1990's...
