All this talk of sub standard songs/albums

Am I one of the few on here who doesn't get involved in all of this stuff?

I love everything Prince has released over the years, and although I have my favourites I don't really reckon he's made a bad album. Am I somehow brainwashed? Should I be worried?
So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

that depends. if your tongue is purple from drinking too much kool aid, or if when you visit the npgmc forums and you don't think any and everyone that posts over there is crazy, then yes... you should be worried.

i don't expect much from prince anymore...i just follow his new stuff because it's fun to do, and the live shows are always good no matter what. as far as i'm concerned, he's already made the albums that will be my favorites. everything else is gravy.

i'm finally getting to where you are smile it took me a while to admit it but
since Musicology i'm kind of there. i'm not even that hyped about the news
of the new album and single. more like "cool, i will def check that out as
it's bound to be nice and entertaining and i wanna see what he's doing".

but beyond that, no, i've kind of given up on expecting every album to be
a masterpiece. The Rainbow Children showed me that he still has it in him
to make an album that will rank in my all time top 10 of any artist.

i like lots of songs on all his post 1997 releases but as a whole there r
only two albums i consider classic for myself: "TRC" and "The Truth".

the rest is good, rockin and entertaining, but it just ain't authentic as
of old Prince. and why would it be? the man's evolved onto another plateau
and i totally agree with that. everyone changes so why wouldn't he.

and i guess it isn't fair to expect an artist to keep on being as good as
he or she was at their prime. everyone has their prime and goes down from
that point with the occasional point of brilliance along the way.

that doesn't exclude prince imo. he can still churn out tunes like no one
else but he's settled for a kind of groove right now that i don't feel at
all that strong about anymore. it's cool to check it out but it's not the
kind of buzz it used to be up to about 1996 anymore.

on the other hand, he did make some fantastic records recently, starting
with TRC as i already said, and all the instrumental discs including the
interstellar "C=Note" EP. but still, just as he was picking up he seemed
to steer into a safe direction again. i don't know, it's always been an
amusing ride to be a Prince fan since you never know what to expect.

but over the years i have become much less obsessed over his new songs,
and now, i think, i've finally reached a point where i don't need to go
out and buy his album the minute the store opens on the day it hits the
shelves.

i'll just buy it the second day

not me. i still buy it the day it hits the shelves.

the shelves they put the cutouts on...

joking aside, i did buy trc in stores (weeks after it came out since i already had it on mp3) and although i have 5 of the cds he gave away at concerts, i did pick up "musicology" at a used store so i could have the lyrics. other than his greatest hits by rhino, "musicology" was the first cd i haven't paid full price for the day it was released.
