Prince donated to republican candidate in 1990? Just found this information. Found it a bit shocking. Well I guess I should not be shocked. He changes like the weather

"Rudy was President Bush’s emissary to Ethiopia in the spring of 1991. His mission resulted in Operation Solomon, the rescue of the small Black Jewish community of Ethiopia and their dramatic airlift to Israel. The negotiations also brought a simultaneous end of the decades-long civil war in Ethiopia." be careful people when choosing sides that's what they want you to do and when you do, they have you playing their game be above it

I remember this. I lived in Minneapolis at the time and it was a big controversy and in the paper and all that. Rudy boswitch was a super bitch. Thankfully Wellstone kicked his ass. In total Prince donated something like $24,000. [Edited 12/9/05 4:02am]

Plus it has been reported on this board that P owns loads of real estate in around Minn. You never know what a good contribution is going to buy and your never going to be broke when you own Real Estate.

You don't need to vote for anybody or donate any money to do so. But, I do agree. Something about the cat (rudy) Prince believed in. As I said, Prince don't just hand over his money, ESPECIALLY at that time in his life, to anybody. He supported republican candidate, its just as SIMPLE as that!

That´s a good point, and one should also not forget that people are allowed to change their minds every now and then. See for instance Sylvester Stallone, a long time republican, but he´s also supported some Democrats from time to time. And he used to hate rappers, now he wants to do a movie about Biggie. Wasn´t Prince happy about Reagan being elected in the early eighties cause he thought Reagan had the bigger balls ? Maybe he wasn´t serious. He also gave a concert (fundraiser) for a Democrat at Paisley Park in the mid nineties , so there you go. I think it´s much more credible if one is open minded enough to change his mind sometimes instead of blindly following an ideology. Prince also gave $10,000 to former Minnesota Senator David Durbin. At the time (late '80's/early 90's) Prince was still very nasty, and when asked about whether it was right for a Republican like Durbin to take money from a guy like
Prince, Durbin said something along the lines of he was happy for any support from law-abiding Americans.

I remember a 1980 interview where Prince spoke favorably of Ronald Reagan, saying that he "has balls"
but then,I also recall in the mid-90s when Prince was planning a benefit concert with Muhammad Ali,he mentioned that he really wants President Clinton to participate, perhaps jamming on saxophone."Something in my heart of hearts tells me that he will show up",Prince said. I don't think Prince is loyal to either party. He's probably an independent voter,if he even votes at all.

Per my understanding, JW's do not vote. At least that was the reason my co-worker gave me for not voting. Something about they don't believe people should govern other people or whatever.
Actually, I'm very shocked about this donation thing on one level. Especially when I think about songs like, "Mr. Man" and "Count the Days." But then again, he can be very knee-jerk.. so I agree that he could have wanted to put some $ behind a specific program he wanted to support. Idon't know but I don't like it.... Come here, babe.. yeah...

Thats right! These people be making excuses and reasons why Prince would do things they either don't like or don't believe in. That, or they don't want to believe he would "do that". When it's somebody else, it's BAD but because it's Prince, "there is a reason" .
